Icebreaker fuses two natural fibers to create the perfect performance fabric for sport and fitness

Icebreaker SS15 Men's GT

Auckland, New Zealand (August 2014) - Icebreaker has combined two natural fibers to create high-performance apparel that keeps athletes cool, dry and comfortable during summer runs and workouts.

New IcebreakerGT Cool-lite™ next generation merino fabric fuses the performance benefits of premium merino wool and Tencel®, a fiber made from sustainably-produced wood.

Merino regulates temperature, breathes to prevent overheating, and resists odor. Tencel® has a high natural moisture content that keeps the body cool in the heat, while its exceptional wicking abilities absorb sweat fast to increase comfort and aid performance.
Icebreaker has used this extraordinary new fabric to create a new Spring/Summer 2015 collection of technical tops and shorts for trail running and other aerobic sports – the Spark Tank, Spark SS V, Spark SS Half Zip and Spark Shorts for women, and the Strike Singlet, Strike SS Crewe, Strike SS Half Zip, Strike 5” Shorts and Strike 7” Shorts for men.

Spark and Strike tops feature a new fabrication of Icebreaker’s mesh eyelet panels for ventilation and heat dumping, with strategic placement based on the results of sweat zone studies. Lightweight Spark and Strike shorts have laser-cut ventilation holes and extra storage pockets for long runs.

Bonded seams reduce bulk and chafing, while sleek Merrow stitching ensures the fabric is soft and comfortable on long runs.

Icebreaker has also extended its use of IcebreakerGT Cool-Lite™ to the Aero Tank and Aero SS Crewe for men and women, core performance tops in the GT technical sports collection.

Mark Koppes, Icebreaker Vice President of Product, says the introduction of IcebreakerGT Cool-lite™ fabric continues the New Zealand-based company’s leadership of merino innovation.

“We’re excited to have created a fabric that feels so good to wear when you’re running, biking or working out in the heat,” he says. “Nothing feels better than wearing a natural product when you’re exercising in nature.”
