(Toronto, Canada) – For the third year in a row Tilley Endurables, makers of the best, most practical, outdoor Hats in the world ™ provided free Sun Skin Assessments to attendees at this summer’s Outdoor Retailer show. Nearly 200 visitors to the Tilley booth opted in for an evaluation by a skin specialist and received a UV photograph highlighting areas of potential sun damage. Coupled with tips on how to Practice Safe Sun® and samples from Joshua Tree Skin Care, participants also helped raise funds for the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC).
For each skin assessment, Tilley donated $5 for each photo taken to the OIWC, an organization dedicated to workplace equity, diversity, and inclusion by expanding opportunities for women in the Outdoor, Snow, and Bike Industries. Tilley ultimately raised $1,000 for the OIWC, to further the not-for-profit organization’s initiatives for professional development, education, and leadership programming that promotes women's advancement.
“The potential for sun damage certainly doesn’t discriminate by gender, affecting men and women equally, obviously, but we thought it would be fun this year to further the OIWC’s mission,” states David Kappele, Vice President- Sales. “As awareness around sun protection continues to grow, the importance of responsible safe sun practices cannot be overstated. As an industry and community we are all going outdoors for various activities from hiking to adventure travel to paddling and camping. UV protection is an integral factor in the design and manufacturing of every Hat we make.
Participants were reminded to apply and reapply sun block, as well as encouraged to wear a sun protective hat such as Tilley’s, which have all been certified as “Excellent UV Protection” (UPF 50+) – blocking 98% of harmful UV rays.
