Bozeman, Mont.
— Duckworth, the only source-verified wool apparel company in the world that is growing, spinning, knitting, and sewing its garments 100 percent in the USA is pleased to announce it has won the American Made Outdoor Gear Award for small businesses. Presented at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2016, the annual award celebrates companies committed to American manufacturing and sourcing in the outdoor market.

For 2016, Duckworth was the category winner for companies with less than 10 employees. Duckworth won because it has taken the lead in revitalizing the American wool industry by building supply chain partnerships from Montana to the Carolinas, a traditional powerhouse of US textile production. Duckworth first grows its own wool on the 25,000-acre Helle Ranch in Dillon, Mont. Then all spinning, knitting, sewing, and dyeing of yarns and fabrics is carefully managed using know-how and manufacturing techniques developed by Duckworth’s design specialists, who are world experts in the art of wool.

First awarded in 2013, the American Made Outdoor Gear Award recognizes companies with compelling domestic manufacturing stories. In the four years of the program, 290 domestic manufacturers have entered the running for the award. Finalists are announced annually on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and the winners are recognized at an awards ceremony during the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. The company with the best “made in America” story receives one-year ownership of the ‘Sassy’ traveling trophy — a hand carved, 3-foot-tall, redwood Sasquatch from Humboldt County, Calif. — and all category winners receive miniature versions of the award.

Duckworth Maverick Snorkel Hoody - MSRP $120.00 - Designed for high-output activities in cold climates, the Duckworth Maverick Snorkel Hoody provides superior warmth, breathability, fit, and odor resistance using Duckworth’s patent-pending, chemical-free shrink resist method. To create the Maverick Snorkel Hoody, Duckworth first grows its own Rambouillet Merino wool on the 25,000-acre Helle Ranch in Dillon, Mont. There, the Helle family has been ranching for over 100 years using regenerative agricultural practices to sustain the finest flock of sheep in America. The wool for each baselayer is then spun, knit, and sewn in the Carolinas – where Duckworth is reenergizing the American textile industry by employing some of the last textile factories in America. Using these factories, Duckworth has developed an inventive, patent-pending way to make wool machine washable without the use of chemicals or added polymers. The end result is a wool baselayer you simply never want to take off.
