Atlas Racing Team athletes brought home winning podium positions for Atlas Snow-Shoe Company at the 2011 Jeremy Wright North American Snowshoe Championships held at Beaver Creek. More than 350 participants came up to Beaver Creek’s beautiful McCoy Park to witness the climactic championship race of both The Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series and Dogma Athletica Snowshoe Series.
With the completion of the final event of the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series came the conclusion of the 2011 Dogma Athletica Snowshoe Series Cup. Dogma Athletica sponsored a cash purse of more than $15,000, the largest purse available in snowshoe racing worldwide. To be eligible for the Dogma Athletica Snowshoe Series Cup, competitors were required to complete all three races of the series in the same division. Athletes gathered not only to race for the Championship but also to honor Vail athlete and snowshoer Jeremy Wright, who died in 2005 in Afghanistan while serving in the United States Army.
In the women’s Dogma Athletica 10K division, Atlas’ Brandy Erholtz finished third with a time of 1:06:20. Erholtz finished just minutes after Rachel Viele took first place and the title of North American Snowshoe Champion with a top time of 1:02:11, and C. Lauren Arnold followed in second with a time of 1:03:49.
In the women’s East West Resorts 5K Quest, Atlas’ Lindsay Krause claimed top honors for the third time in the series with a time of 38:08, followed by Beaver Creek’s Melinda Brant who took second place with a time of 40:14. Vicky Keleske took third place just behind Brant with a time of 40:47.
The men’s East West Resorts 5K Quest saw Atlas’s Travis Macy clock in a winning time of 32:55, his third win of the series in this division. Macy was followed by Street Swell athlete Brad Zoller, who took second place with a time of 33:59.
“It is really exciting to see the Atlas program blossom over the years,” said Adam W. Chase, Team Atlas captain and manager. “Team Atlas saw racers on the podiums of both the men’s and women’s Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series in the 10k and 5k and we anticipate a duplication of that effort this coming weekend at the US Snowshoe Association’s National Championship in Wisconsin. I’m really proud of this squad and the way they exhibit their spirit and passion for the sport,” said Chase.
