White Sierra Introduces New Earth-Friendly Fabrications for Spring 08

White Sierra bolsters its proprietary fabrics offering with more earth-friendly performance fabrics and softer garment washes for Spring 2008.

White Sierra, an outdoor brand with a heritage that extends back 27 years, bolsters its proprietary fabrics offering with more earth-friendly performance fabrics and softer garment washes for Spring 2008.

White Sierra is unveiling its Happy Planet Earth-Friendly fabric series of 11 styles for men and women in both tops and shorts.

New on the scene is the Soda Bottle Weave, a recycled-poly/poly blend available in the men's Kal Plaid Shirt.

Returning for another season is White Sierra's acclaimed Bam Bam Weaveâ„¢, which has been praised as environmentally-friendly performance wear. This bamboo blend will be available in two men's and two women's tops.

“The Happy Planet series is part of White Sierra's efforts to better serve our outdoor customers by offering performance fabrics that have a lesser impact on the earth,” said Al Whitworth, White Sierra Director of Marketing.

White Sierra has an extensive history of working with mills and sourcing textiles, which ensures short production times and allows the company to provide these fabrics and features sooner than some of its larger competitors.

“We spend a lot of time working with small suppliers who can provide us with unique fabrics,” said White Sierra VP-Sourcing Larry Tsui. “Over the last season, we've been more conscious of ways to make our favorite fabrics more earth-friendly.

For example, White Sierra is using Linen in its line as a way to phase in more naturally beneficial fibers. “We're taking small but definite steps in our journey to become part of the solution,” said Tsui.

White Sierra's new proprietary fabrics for Spring 2008 include:

• Soda Bottle Weave™
Made from recycled poly and polyester, this sun protection shirt is also wicking. One shirt made from this fabric keeps the equivalent of five soda bottles out of landfills.

• Bam Bam Weave™
Made from bamboo fiber and polyester, this technical fabric is naturally moisture-wicking and features antimicrobial properties as well as sun protection. Bamboo is an earth-friendly, sustainable fiber, and grown without pesticides.

• Zahara Linen Cotton™
One of the oldest textiles in the world, linen is naturally easy on the environment, with only half the water input of cotton. It's also highly absorbent and cool in garments.

• Cotton Waffle™
White Sierra's cotton poly waffle is work-wear inspired with a rugged and durable look, but hides a soft hand that's great for basics.

• Travel Suede™
Travel Suedeâ„¢ will be featured in the men's Continental Drift collection. With a heavy peached finish that looks and feels like suede, this new fabric is incredibly travel friendly as it is water repellent and wrinkle resistant.

• Phoenix Poly Linen™
White Sierra introduces a technical Poly Rayon Linen performance fabric for men and women. This poly rayon linen blend features UPF 30 sun protection, moisture management and quick drying properties.

• H2O Water Print™
Used in White Sierra's Youth Rainwear for 2008, H2O Water Print boasts a hidden print that becomes visible when the garment is wet.

• Coolweave™
This 100-percent cotton yarn dye plaid fabric is quick drying and features a gauze mesh backing for moisture management. It is made from White Sierra's lightest weight cotton.
