The Dyrt Launches Crowdsourced Campground Search Platform, $100,000 Great Camping Giveaway
New go-to campground search tool that will take the guesswork out of choosing the perfect campsite.
PORTLAND, OR (June 2, 2016) – Today, The Dyrt launches their new website that will soon become the nation’s leading campground search tool driven by crowdsourced photos, videos and reviews of nearly every campground in America. The Dyrt is leveraging gamification with its $100,000 Great Camping Giveaway to become the go-to source for finding the right campground to fit your needs, solving the online search pain for the 40 million Americans who struggle to find a campground online.
The start-up tech firm, based in Portland, won a coveted spot in the 2015 Telluride Venture Accelerator for early-stage ventures focused on the outdoors. From there, the husband and wife team conducted a small 45-day beta launch last summer that generated more than two thousand photos and videos with almost no promotion. Sarah Smith, co-founder and VP of product and community for The Dyrt, is an avid camper and no stranger to the challenges of researching campgrounds. “I was beyond frustrated with the experience of finding a campsite online, so we set out to build a robust campground database and found a way that will quickly make The Dyrt the number one resource for campsite reviews, photos and videos,” says Smith. “You wouldn’t book a hotel without checking out a review or photo, a campground should be no different.”
The Dyrt is “gamifying” their inaugural summer with a four-month $100,000 Great Camping Giveaway in which users at the state level earn points and win prizes for posting useful campground content and reviews. Outdoor brands such as Clif Bar, Toad&Co, Mountain Khakis, and Cotopaxi (full list of brand partners below), recognize the struggle felt by campers and have teamed up with The Dyrt to give away thousands of quality outdoor goods and participate in the improvement of camping search.
“I know a lot of brands in the outdoor space are looking for new and creative ways to reach and engage these consumers online, and The Dyrt is going to be one of the more unique digital campaigns brands participate in this year,” says co-founder and CEO Kevin Long. “We have an interesting balance of marketing and tech folks on board, and are maximizing our launch and state level contests with PR agency, Hayter Communications, and Foghorn Labs for SEO and PPC programs. Our number one goal this summer is visitors, laying the groundwork for what’s to come.”
The Dyrt is focused on building up the most comprehensive camping search database with a fun competitive game to maximize their opportunity in 2017 when 3rd party access to government camping reservations is set to open up, giving The Dyrt a leg up in the race to win camping reservations.
Stay tuned for a guided adventure travel component to roll out over the coming months, slated to include everything from white water rafting to heli-skiing.
