Rohnert Park (CA): For spring 2014, Marmot once again raises the bar in the waterproof and breathable shell category with the introduction of Marmot NanoPro™—a remarkable new laminated and coated technology aptly named for its micro-porous structure. NanoPro™ is a big advancement in shell fabrication, where innovation, value and performance all come together.

“NanoPro™ has broken new ground in shell technology, adding a third dimension to the waterproof/breathable equation which we define as ‘Dynamic Air Permeability,’” explains Greg Houser, Marmot’s Vice President of Production. “These new coated and laminated structures are incredibly hyper-porous allowing air to move through the garment quickly and easily, giving the end user a greater outdoor experience—and at an affordable price.”

When Marmot launched PreCip® coated shell technology in 1998, the jacket’s $99 price-point (still the same today) brought game-changing advances in value and cost directly to the consumer. Other generations of Marmot’s leading laminated technologies followed and pushed the edges of breathability and performance; from 2.5 layer MemBrain® Strata™ in 2009 to FusionDri™ in 2012.

“NanoPro™ is arguably our best proprietary fabric technology yet. It offers exceptional consumer value and cutting-edge performance,” adds Houser, who, with his production team at Marmot, have pioneered coated and laminated technologies for years. “Marmot’s Spectra, Essence, Super Mica, Adroit and Artemis jackets—are all new or updated with NanoPro™ and range from $175-$250.”

NanoPro’s™ much touted Dynamic Air Permeability allows for moisture vapor accrued from the user’s internal climate to exchange more quickly with the outside without compromising waterproof performance or wind protection.

Brian LaPlante, Marmot’s Director of Outdoor Apparel adds, “Our goal with NanoPro™ isn’t just to make a more breathable garment, we’re looking for technologies that advance the 21st century outdoor user, an individual who wants to be ready for any type of adventure—anytime. NanoPro™ provides opportunities to go farther and faster so the user enjoys the experience more than ever before.”

How does it work?

Marmot NanoPro™ utilizes a new micro porous technology with a pore structure that is 30% smaller than previous generations. These very small, densely packed pores allow for enhanced breathability while maintaining excellent waterproofness. This pore structure is also air permeable allowing for dynamic air exchange. Combined, this creates a fabric that is incredibly comfortable through a wide range of activities. Marmot NanoPro™ fabrics are available as both 2.5-layer lamination and coating in a range of fabric weights and construction. The flexibility of this technology gives Marmot designers the ability to create designs that are appropriate for multiple activities.

Nano Pro™ MemBrain®

This new fabric is the most comfortable 2.5-layer lamination Marmot has yet to offer. Its unsurpassed breathability and superb waterproofness make it the best high performance choice for lightweight 2.5-layer garments. Nano Pro™ MemBrain® is up to 140% more breathable than our previous laminated technology.

Nano Pro™ Coated Technology

Nano Pro™ coated technology offers unprecedented performance in a coated fabric with Dynamic Air Permeability, and long term, durable waterproofness. Marmot NanoPro™ is 43% more breathable than our previous coating technology. This advancement in fabric technology brings a new level of performance to value-conscious consumers.
