Field & Stream magazine has retained Backbone Media to manage the public relations and media communications for the 2007 FIELD & STREAM TOTAL OUTDOORSMAN CHALLENGE presented by JACK DANIEL'S. The fourth annual event will include six regional qualifiers and a national championship to determine the nation's best all-around outdooorsman (or woman) with a $25,000 prize and national television exposure on the line.
â€œBackbone is perfectly aligned to help the Total Outdoorsman Challenge build upon its success and grow the event's national exposure,â€ states Amanda McNally, public relations manager for Field & Stream. â€œWe're looking for strong participation in each of our qualifying events and Backbone will help us get the word out so we have the best of the best at the national championships.â€
Field & Stream will select contestants for the national championships through a series of six qualifying events at Bass Pro Shops in Fort Lauderdale, Dallas, Las Vegas, Chicago, Baltimore and Nashville. Contestants at each of the regional qualifiers compete in fly casting, archery, air rifle and bait casting. The top-ranking competitor from each qualifier will advance to the national championships in Springfield, Mo. in mid-August.
At the national championships 16 contestants must prove their mettle at seven different outdoor skills: fly casting, bait casting, air rifle, shotgun, endurance, archery and ATV handling. The outdoorsman with the best combined score at the end of the event wins $25,000 in cash and prizes, including a new Artic Cat 700 EFI 4x4 Automatic ATV. The national championship carries a total $38,000 prize purse, with all 16 competitors receiving a cash prize.
The Versus network will air three one-hour shows featuring the Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge presented by Jack Daniel's in September 2007, concluding with an episode that will reveal the national champion.
