Why not a bar for kids? This bar’s creators point out that for young kids (about ages 7 to 10), the mix of vitamins, minerals and other nutritional additives in normal adult sports nutrition bars can be an overload for their littler bodies and lower needs. Good point. So these bars are formulated just for their needs with lower portions of such things as calcium, vitamin A and E, among others.

But kids don't care about science. What about taste? Our kid tasters were split, with some chowing them down and others kinda grimacing about an unpleasant thickness and voicing a preference for something fruitier. (The flavors now are Double Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Creamy Peanut Butter.) We can see why many of the kids liked them. The bars are chocolate-covered and pretty creamy and taste more like candy bars than sports energy bars.

Now, what about the parents? At a suggested retail of $18.95 for a box of 12, a few just shook their heads, with one saying, "Kids can do fine by eating healthy carbs and fruits during athletic events." A couple of others said they'd be tempted for an occasional sports treat, but would prefer a price of $1 or less. Another said, dang, with picky kids, if they'll eat it, I'll buy it.

We like the basic concept, but the price will make them a pretty elite food.
