SmartWool Celebrates 100K Facebook Fans and Launches First Ever Crowd-Sourced Van Tour

July 15, 2013 (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) – On July 8, 2013, SmartWool surpassed a 100,000 Facebook fans on the ubiquitous social-networking site. In response – and less than 10 days later – SmartWool is launching the first ever, 100% crowd-sourced van tour on July 17. “After hitting 100K, we were looking for a way to say a big ‘Thank You’to the fans,” says Carol Davidson, SmartWool VP of marketing. “Hitting the road while giving our community the chance to interact with the tour, physically and virtually, is the perfect solution.”

Dubbed the SmartWool® Fan Van Tour, fans and followers will be able to influence all facets of the tour including meal stops, accommodation, and even the music played inside the Fan Van. Via SmartWool’s Fan Van Facebook app (Smartwool.com/FanVan), fans will be able to listen – and add tracks – to the Fan Van’s Spotify playlist as well as view real-time Instagram photos and Twitter posts from the road. Anyone can follow or participate in the SmartWool Fan Van Tour on various social media channels using the hashtag #SWFanVan.

At the suggestion of a SmartWool fan, the SmartWool Fan Van Tour kicks off from Denver’s Ace Restaurant & Ping Pong Hall for a ping-pong happy hour on July 17. Five other locations have been announced as SmartWool fan ‘meetup’ events during the three-week tour – Chicago, IL; Minneapolis, MN; Big Sky, MT; Sun Valley, ID; and Salt Lake City, UT. These stops were chosen based on the uniquely high concentrations of SmartWool social followers located therein. All points in between are DBF (determined by fans).
