Managing Consumer Buzz on Social Media Webinar Set for January 13

BOULDER, CO (January 5, 2010) – On Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m. (MST) Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) will present Managing Consumer Buzz on Social Media. This live Webinar workshop, presented by Mike Geraci, Vice President / Strategic Development Director of Verde PR & Consulting, will examine the current and upcoming opportunities available to retailers through traditional and social media channels and provide for discussion on the resources required to support these public relations strategies.

While media relations and an understanding of the news gathering process are still the cornerstones of PR strategies, customers are getting the majority of their news and entertainment from interactive online sources.

"Brand marketing is changing. It has to. How and from where people get their news and entertainment is migrating from print to online channels faster than anyone expected," said Ann Obenchain, vice president of member services and marketing for OIA. “You need a PR strategy that takes advantage of the new opportunities the web provides to communicate directly with the people interested in the success of your business, and for them to communicate with you."

Managing Consumer Buzz on Social Mediais the last of nine retail workshops in the 2009 OIA Outdoor University® program. Outdoor University is offered free to OIA members and for $99 per webinar for non members. Pre-registration is required. For complete information on the Outdoor University program, speakers or to register, visit www.outdoorindustry.org.

Outdoor University is made possible through the generous support of its sponsors: Outdoor Retailer, JanSport, Woolrich, 3point5.com, The Leisure Trends Group, Alien Truth Communications, Verde PR & Consulting, Creative Business Consulting Group, Darby Communications, Gluskin Townley Group, Pale Morning Media, The Mann Group, and Redwood Creek.
