Flylow (www.flylowgear.com), the independent, homegrown and mountain-raised creators of outerwear and apparel, was honored this week with a Backcountry Magazine Editor’s Choice award for their new Crowe Jacket.

New for winter 2018, Flylow’s Crowe Jacket ($275) delivers a refreshingly unique take on the trend of hooded micropuff midlayers – adding performance stretch, exceptional interior comfort and rugged durability to a product category that has become a true essential of mountain life.

“We didn’t want to jump into the world of puffy midlayers without having a real reason and a unique Flylow angle, ” said Dan Abrams, co-founder of Flylow. “So we honed in on what we -- as everyday skiers – truly wanted and couldn’t find anywhere else.”

The outer shell of the Crowe is made from 100% Nylon Intuitive Stretch Ripstop -- a signficiant step up in toughness and dynamic mobility from a traditional lightweight midlayer. Tough enough to be worn as an outer layer for tree skiing or scrambling, the Crowe’s scuff-resistant exterior also eliminates abrasions and pilling which frequently occur in lighter weight shells. The Crowe’s outer shell is also breathable, improving comfort during long ascents.

The warmth of the Crowe is delivered with Primaloft Eco insulation, a synthetic fill made of post-consumer recycled materials. Primaloft Eco keeps the wearer warm without adding bulk, enabling the Crowe to be layered easily under a shell.

As a final touch, the Crowe also delivers on comfort, with a sweatshirt-soft jersey knit liner. The incredible comfort is refreshing in the backcountry, but also around town over a simple t-shirt.

The Backcountry Magazine Editor’s Choice awards will be featured in the 2018 Backcountry Gear Guide, with winners standing out from the “best of the best” skis, splitboards, boots, bindings and softgoods tested by the magazine staff.
