Denver, CO (January 30, 2015) – With over 1,000 brands exhibiting at the 2015 SIA Snow Show and Sourcing Snow in Denver, Colo. (Jan. 29 – Feb. 1, 2015) there are thousands of retailers, reps, suppliers, media, athletes and advocates working with those brands making the Snow Show the largest industry gathering of the year. On Day 2, SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the snow sports industry’s member-owned trade association, and the entire industry made a point to acknowledge their peers with awards, honors and celebrations.

“As a New England sales rep, it’s great to be here and see all the love for the industry year after year and the continued enthusiasm by this community, commented Deno Dudanake, Northeastern Sales Rep for Rossignol. “What other venue presents this opportunity? None.”

“The Show is just a great place to gather a ton of people and see what’s happening in other shops and appreciate all the things that are going on around the country that we don’t get exposed to in Michigan,” said Eric Schmidt,Modern Skate & Surf, Royal Oak, MI.

The day started off with a bang as a packed room turned up early this morning for burritos and bloodies at a Protect Our Winters (POW) hosted breakfast, featuring guest speaker David Roberts from Grist.org – a renowned journalist on the topic of climate change and energy politics. Roberts shared data and anecdotes in an engaging talk that stressed the importance of the snow sports industry’s involvement in the fight against climate change.

“As a 60B industry with a very unique position and culture, the snow sports industry has tremendous influence to spread awareness. This industry has a direct stake in this issue that not many industries do, so anything we can do to educate people within the industry and encourage them to get involved is tremendously important,” Roberts said.

Jeremy Jones, Founder of POW and Jones Snowboards, said, "I think just to bring perspective and expertise, all of the things that David Roberts touched on is awesome. POW’s mission is uniting the industry to fight climate change, and having this opportunity at SIA is so important; the power of SIA is that it’s the gathering of the tribe. This is the industry."

Another famous snowboarder was hanging out in APO’s booth today, 2014 Olympic gold medalistSage Kotsenburg was taking in his first ever SIA Snow Show. “I’m stoked to be here— usually I’m in Aspen competing at the Winter X Games during the Show. The vibe is really good --it’s nice to see everyone hustling and bustling,” said Kotsenburg.

Later in the day, U.S. Ski Team supplier GoPro was honored with the Doc DesRoches Award for excellence in promoting the Team’s brand and athletes. The award is named in honor of Doc DesRoches, a long time industry leader who helped form SIA and led it for two decades. During that tenure he was instrumental in development of the U.S. Ski Team's fundraising efforts.

“Winning the award is a big honor for GoPro. To follow in the footsteps of those big endemic brands, who have won in the past is incredible. Partners such as USSA and SIA have been so great to work with and we’re only going to become bigger partners and stay true to this snow sports world,” commented Davey Smidt,GoPro.

At the SIA SnowSports Retailer and Rep Awards ceremony, eleven regional sales reps and seven retailer received awards for their success fostering relationships, moving product and setting their brands and shops apart from the competition, which pushing forward the passion and growth of snow sports.

Tonight in the Colorado Convention Center’s Mile High Ballroom, Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC), with support from NPD Group and SIA, will celebrate the impact of women in snow sports at a reception honoring 2015 Pioneering WomenAward winner Linda Rodney, sales manager North America with Giro, and 2015 First Ascent Award winner Lesley Betts, Product Manager for snowboards at Burton.

Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks concert, now in its fourth year at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is another benchmark event where snow sports enthusiasts will gather tonight to celebrate wintertime in Colorado.
