Avatech Expands Product and Marketing Teams, Opens New European and U.S. Facilities

PARK CITY, Utah (June 5, 2015) – New facilities on two continents and a number of key hires mark an active June for Avatech, a technology company developing the first global, crowd-sourced platform for mountain safety information. In addition to its new Park City headquarters, the Utah-based company has opened a new distribution and service center in Chamonix, France, and welcomes a number of new hires, including lead mobile developer Olivier Brand, formerly senior director of mobile operations at Visa.

“The growth that we are seeing with our suite of interconnected products has contributed to a very dynamic atmosphere,” says Brint Markle, co-founder and CEO of Avatech. “With Avatech’s current momentum, it is important to fuel our growth with exceptional talent to continue our trajectory and best serve our mountain community.”

Brand, a volunteer ski patroller and 25-year veteran in mobile development, joins Avatech as lead mobile developer. Katie Van Riper joins the Avatech team as marketing manager. Van Riper formerly worked as partnerships manager for the U.S. Ski Team and marketing coordinator at Snowbird Resort. Richard Kirby will serve as an optical consultant. Kirby founded KSP Research, has led several athlete advancement projects with Redbull and is an optical sensing expert.

Additionally, Avatech has built a world-class internship program, recently hiring masters students and graduates of elite engineering programs such as Stanford, Dartmouth, Duke, University of Vermont, University of Pennsylvania and Tufts.

Avatech’s expanding team of A-list product developers receives a facility to match their acumen this month when the company moves into its new global headquarters in Park City. This 2,100 square-foot space is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronics, software, and prototype lab.

To better support European customers, Avatech has opened a distribution and service center in Chamonix, France, just a few feet from the base of the Aiguille du Midi tram. In addition, backcountry industry veterans Craig Widdicome and Franz Hohensinn have joined Avatech as sales representatives for Central Europe. Widdicome, owner and operator of Concept Pro Shop in Chamonix, will represent Avatech in France, Switzerland and Italy. Hohensinn, a long-time certified guide and trainer for the Salzburg Mountain Rescue Team and Avalanche Commission, will cover Austria and Germany.

“We have had a strong introductory year in Europe, but without infrastructure in place, we have been limited in servicing the diverse avalanche safety community on that continent,” says Thomas Laakso, brand president. “The Avatech Europe Service Center is a huge step forward in expanding and connecting our global database.”

Avatech is building the largest and most intelligent network of mountain safety information in the world, powered by connected hardware and software. For more information on Avatech, visit Avatech.com.
