Montebello, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2014)--Allied Feather & Down, the leading supplier and processor of down in the outdoor and apparel industry, is proud to announce its partnership with polar explorer, educator and expedition guide, Eric Larsen. He has spent the past 20 years traveling to some of the most remote and wild places left on earth and has set multiple world records, including his achievement as the first person in history to reach the world's three 'poles' within a 365-day period.
Allied will provide support for Eric Larsen’s expeditions and educational initiatives while Eric will offer field testing and feedback for Allied’s R&D department. Eric will utilize Allied down technologies in some of the coldest, most extreme and unforgiving climates on earth.
Through this partnership, Allied and Eric Larsen also hope to educate brands and consumers on the qualitative differences among down and on responsible sourcing. Down is an ingredient that can be greatly affected by variables and subtleties that exist throughout the supply chain from sourcing to processing. The duo will make it easier for stakeholders to know more about the down in their outerwear and bags- especially when it comes to survival.
“We are thrilled to be working with Eric—like Allied, he is a down enthusiast,” said Daniel Uretsky, President of Allied. “His extensive experience with the life-saving qualities of down, as well as some of the challenges, will offer incredible insight for our team. We are constantly working to optimize the performance of our ingredient technologies and what better way to fine-tune this than testing them out in the coldest, dampest places on earth. Allied is honored to join Eric on his upcoming expeditions."
“On a polar or mountaineering expedition, I can go from a normal situation to a dangerous one in a matter of minutes and a down jacket is my first defense,” said Larsen. “I look forward to working with Allied on their innovations in down - nature’s best form of insulation.”

About Eric Larsen:
Polar adventurer, expedition guide, and educator, Eric Larsen has spent the past 20 years traveling in some of the most remote and extreme environments on the planet. To date, Eric has completed more polar expeditions than any other American in history. Included in that list are the first ever summer expedition to the North Pole as well as a world record expedition to the South Pole, North Pole and top of Mt. Everest all within a 365-day period.
In March and April of 2014, Eric and team mate Ryan Waters set the American unsupported North Pole expedition 'speed' record traveling from northern Ellesmere Island to the Geographic North Pole in 53 days. Called Last North, this expedition may quite possibly be the last of its kind in history to reach the North Pole and will be featured in a documentary on Animal Planet in early 2015.
Eric's other expeditions include bicycling in Antarctica, dog sledding in the Canadian Arctic and climbing Mt. McKinley. He has ridden his bike across the United States, been a backcountry ranger in Alaska and a white water canoe guide in Colorado. Eric has dedicated his adult life to sharing his love for the outdoor world with others. As an educator, Eric strives to connect people to places and issues and his adventures have been featured on on CNN, The New York Times, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, National Public Radio and MSNBC.
