  • Lululemon, in Vancouver, Canada, tapped former Burton and Tom’s executive Laurent Potdevin as the company’s new CEO to replace Christine Day, who previously announced her resignation from the yoga brand. Potdevin most recently held the role of president at Toms Shoes, and before that served as president and CEO of Burton Snowboards from 2005-2010. Lululemon also announced that its founder and chairman of the board, Chip Wilson, would step down from the company’s chairman position. Wilson had taken heat for several of his comments following issues with the brand’s yoga pants.
  • Outdoor Research in Seattle promoted Director of Commercial Sales Dave Mahoney to Vice President of Sales. In his new role on the company’s executive team, Mahoney will direct all commercial sales efforts in North America, as well as oversee global commercial sales outside of Europe. European sales will continue to be managed by Maurice Brenninkmeijer, who oversees Outdoor Research’s European headquarters in Switzerland. Before joining the Outdoor Research team, Mahoney worked for several years as the Director of Sales for Cloudveil.Prior to that, he held a number of sales positions within the outdoor industry, including key account sales manager for EJ Footwear and working as a sales rep in the Rockies. He also managed an outdoor retail shop in Winter Park, Colo., for several years.
  • Johnson Outdoors, in Racine, Wis., appointed Christopher Martens as Business Director – Camping. In this new role, Martens will be responsible for brand management, product management, marketing, R&D, quality control and customer service for the Eureka!, Silva, and Jetboil brands. Martens previously served as business and merchandise director at Nike and CEO of Respect Your Universe. He also spent 11 years at EMS as in a variety of positions including product manager of tents, sleeping bags and cooking (stoves, hydration, food, energy products). “With the recent acquisition of Jetboil, this position was created to fully maximize the potential of all three brands within the Johnson Outdoors Gear portfolio,” said Bill Kelly, group vice president of Johnson Outdoors Gear and Watercraft.
  • Scarpa North America, in Boulder, Colo., hired Samantha Killgore as its marketing manager, starting Jan. 2. She will oversee the rest of Scarpa’s North American marketing team and direct all aspects of marketing strategy and communications, including web, advertising, marketing collateral, public relations, social media, athletes and events. Killgore will come to Scarpa from Rab, where she also serves as the North American marketing manager.
  • Ortovox USA, in Longmont, Colo., named two new sales agencies to expand its reach in the New England and Mid-Atlantic markets. Dan Sandberg, an experienced guide and avalanche educator will lead sales responsibilities in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Kinetic Reps, an established agency out of West Chester, Penn., will represent Ortovox in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia and northern Virginia.
  • Tough Mudder, in Brooklyn, N.Y., appointed Carol Kruse as its global chief marketing officer. Kruse previously served as senior vice president and chief marketing officer at ESPN and headed the interactive marketing team at Coca-Cola.
  • Sports Hansa, in Ashville, N.C., named Treehouse Communications, headed by Theresa Blake, to manage the North American public relations for its Montane and Helle of Norway brands. Treehouse will work alongside Sport Hansa to amplify Montane and Helle of Norway’s unique product offerings and differentiating attributes. Treehouse is tasked with developing dynamic brand communications strategies to increase visibility and strengthen each brand’s presence in the US and Canadian markets.
  • Stonewear Designs, in Louisville, Colo., hired Sara Roberts as its new in-house account manager handling its Midwest and West accounts. Roberts spent the previous six years traveling as a North American tour guide. She most recently served as private group coordinator in Northern California, designing active, adventure holidays for private clientele. She will relocate from California to Colorado to join the Stonewear Designs team.
  • Outdoor Tech, in Los Angeles, named Hayter Communications as its public relations agency of record.The agency will show Outdoor Tech’s latest goods in January at the CES trade show in Las Vegas and the SIA Snow Show in Denver.
  • SealSkinz selected Momentum Media PR as its agency of record for public relations and social media. Momentum has been brought onboard to help build awareness around the official U.S. market launch of the SealSkinz brand in early 2014. Prior to January 2013, a limited selection of products carrying the SealSkinz brand name was available in the United States under license using non-U.K. manufacturing. SealSkinz has since re-acquired the brand rights and established a U.S. subsidiary to bring a full range of improved Sealskinz product to the US, including their patented, made in the U.K., Socks and Ultra Grip gloves.
