BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) – To pay tribute to special efforts that inspire all of us, O2X Summit Challenges is now accepting nominations for its “Rise Higher Award” – a special honor to be presented at each of their four fall 2014 race events.
An all-natural mountain adventure for runners, hikers and nature lovers, the O2X Summit Challenge Series (www.o2x.com) debuts on Mt. Ellen at Sugarbush Resort on September 13. Events at Sunday River, Maine (Sept. 27), Loon Mountain, N.H. (Oct. 18) and Windham Mountain, N.Y. (Oct. 25) round out the season series.
The Rise Higher Award recognizes that regardless of their place in the finishing order, some racers have conquered even greater obstacles than the mountains themselves.
Rise Higher Award candidates will be nominated by fellow racers, family members and friends prior to the race via email (email@example.com). Winners will have survival stories, health-related or otherwise, or a demonstrated profound commitment to service and volunteerism.
“It’s a way to acknowledge something very special that you never may have known about someone standing next to you,” said O2X Summit Challenge co-founder Gabriel Gomez. “There are people all around us who have overcome incredible odds in life, and we want to hear their stories – how they got where they are and what they’ve done for others. The nominations should come from friends, family members and co-workers, whether they’re racing or not.”
Each winner will receive a special award, a complimentary 2015 entry and the opportunity to be profiled at www.O2X.com.
“Now we’ve created a way to acknowledge those inspiring stories of people rising above expectations and circumstance,” said O2X co-founder Craig Coffey. “Those stories make the world a better place, and that’s what O2X Summit Challenges are all about.”
Combining trail running and creative natural challenges with a summit finish, O2X Summit Challenges are designed for a variety of fitness levels, from weekend hikers to elite trail runners. A weekend-long “BaseCamp” will blend on-site camping, local food and beverages, live music, training-and-performance exhibits – bouldering wall and slack line, and a farmer’s market-inspired gathering of local fare. Also, a great collection of sponsors and a fun kids race.
O2X organizers are committed to composting and recycling whenever possible, working with local suppliers to reduce shipping impact, avoiding single-serve packages and donating salvageable foods in the local area after the event. All O2X courses are built to U.S. Forest Service guidelines, and organizers are committed to a first-of-its kind Remediation Pledge to leave the mountain in better shape than they found it.
