LOWA Partners With AMC to Open Two Demo Centers

Stamford, Connecticut, April 29, 2013 – In 2012, LOWA Boots partnered with the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) to open a Demo Center at the Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire. Fast forward to 2013 after hundreds of hikers subsequently enjoyed a day in LOWA boots at no charge. The program was so successful that it is being duplicated at the Mohican Outdoor Center located in the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area close to the Appalachian Trail in New Jersey. Both areas offer a network of nearby trails that lets city dwellers and suburban enthusiasts take advantage of accessible, affordable and beautiful places to hike and enjoy other outdoor activities. The Mohican Outdoor Center program officially just opened and the Joe Dodge Lodge will open on Memorial Day week-end. Both Demo Centers will operate through the Columbus Day holiday.

“The Demo Centers allow potential LOWA consumers to try before they buy,” commented Peter Sachs, general manager of LOWA in the U.S. “Our goal is to help everyone realize the benefit and enjoyment of top quality footwear designed for specific terrain as opposed to everyday-casual or basketball-type shoes frequently seen on the trails. Based on the Demo Center’s success last year in New Hampshire, we know it works.”

Demo Center employees are receiving training from LOWA so that they are prepared to help hikers choose between three men’s, three ladies and one junior model. LOWA encourages the employees to try different models themselves so that they can give advice based on real life knowledge.

The Appalachian Mountain Club promotes the protection, enjoyment and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters and trails of the Appalachian region. Pinkham Notch, with access to Mount Washington, Tuckerman Ravine and the Wildcat Range, has been a hub for hiking, climbing, snowshoeing and skiing on the Presidential Range of the White Mountains since the 1920s. The Mohican Outdoor Center is located just a 90-minute drive from New York City and less than three hours from Philadelphia in Blairstown, New Jersey. It is surrounded by 6,000 acres of Mohican State Forest and borders Pleasant Hill Lake.

LOWA Boots LLC, with headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, is a partnership with LOWA Sportschuhe Gmbh founded in 1923 and based in Jetzendorf, Germany. The U.S. company, launched in 1996, sells, markets, and distributes a complete line of four season outdoor footwear for walking, hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering as well as everyday use. In addition, LOWA offers collections of specialized footwear for field sports and professional task force use.
