SylvanSport's â€˜GO' Brings Home Gold In 2008 IDEA Awards Competition

Cedar Mountain, NCâ€” As the sports world gears up for the Olympics and everyone is focused on who's going to bring home Gold, a Western North Carolina-based company recently brought home Gold of their own. Today, SylvanSport's â€œGO Mobile Adventure Gearâ€ (www.sylvansport.com) was named as a 2008 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) Gold winner in the annual competition co-sponsored by Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and BusinessWeek. SylvanSport received one of 35 Gold IDEA awards out of 1,517 products and concepts that were submitted for consideration. The IDEA competition is a celebration of the most innovative and exciting product and product concept designs of the year and one of the world's most prestigious design competitions. It is awarded to companies and products exhibiting a focus on sustainability, great attention to detail and, in a slowing economy, relatively affordable price points. In 2008, IDEA had more international candidates than ever before, awarding honors to 109 designs from 25 countries.
Praised widely for its ability to transport gear in a more fuel-friendly manner, provide comfortable accommodations without the large expense of an RV, and leave virtually no footprint on the environment when the adventure is over, the â€˜GO' is creating a movement among outdoor enthusiasts.

According to IDSA, the 2008 IDEA jury comprised of 20 world-renowned designers and thinkers, spent weeks previewing entries online and two-and-a-half days of intense, face-to-face evaluation and debate on IDEA. One judge in particular was very impressed with the â€˜GO.'
â€œThis trailer can turn a compact car into a weekend-only SUVâ€¦ instead of one for the daily commute,â€ said Alistair Hamilton, IDSA, Creative Director â€“ Mobile Communications, Microsoft. â€œThe designers thought through many uses and tuned this trailer to adapt elegantly to seemingly endless outdoor needs.â€
The BusinessWeek IDEA report hit newsstands on July 18th with an in-depth analysis of the winners. In addition, IDSA's quarterly magazine, Innovation, will publish information on the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners as well as finalists in its Yearbook of Design Excellence this fall.
