ALLIED Receives Two Illustrious Sustainability Awards from Nike, VFC
The brand’s considerable progress with RDS, fluorocarbon-free down, and transparency initiatives cited for honors
Montebello, California (February 9, 2016) — The sustainability accolades keep coming in for the outdoor industry’s largest supplier of down, ALLIED Feather & Down: The company closed out 2015 and entered 2016 with a bang, receiving awards from industry giants Nike and VF Corporation, the parent company of ALLIED’s partner brand The North Face.
In January, ALLIED received Nike’s award for its outstanding achievement in the Nike Material Sustainability Index (MSI) Premium Supplier Program. ALLIED's Nike MSI score “demonstrates a best in class commitment to sustainability for the Fall and Holiday 2017 season," according to the award’s guidelines.
Nike began developing MSI in 2003, “to provide a practical method to help designers make informed, real-time decisions about the potential and various environmental impacts of material choices in the product creation process,” according to the website. The Nike MSI calculates relative material scores for each of the more than 80,000 materials available to Nike product creation teams from 1,400 suppliers.
Just a few weeks earlier, VFC honored ALLIED with their 2015 Supplier of the Year award. This award is offered to the outstanding global ingredient supplier – not just down or fill – which for a brand as large as VFC is a massive group. Having helped Textile Exchange and The North Face develop the Responsible Down Standard from the outset, ALLIED was instrumental in TNF becoming 100% RDS certified for 2016 products.

With their long history of social responsibility and transparency, ALLIED has piloted multiple programs geared toward improving both: Along with helping develop the RDS program, their Track My Down program provides product hangtags allowing consumers to trace exactly where their down came from, how it was processed, its actual fill-power rating, and a wealth of other educational information. Last month, ALLIED announced that all of their water-resistant down will be fluorocarbon free by 2017.
