The active interest tradeshow world received an exciting piece of news today as Emerald Expositions acquired George Little Management (GLM) for $335 million. While the transaction is anticipated to close in January 2014, shows like Surf Expo and Internet Retailer will join the likes of Interbike and Outdoor Retailer.
Interbike is North America’s largest bicycle trade show while Outdoor Retailer, held twice a year for the summer and winter markets, are two of the largest outdoor trade shows in the world.
And while OR and Interbike may be cool, Surf Expo has bragging rights of its own, recently winning two prestigious awards at the Annual Trade Show News Network (TSNN) Awards in November: "Fastest-Growing Attendance" for the for-profit trades how category and the overall "Fastest-Growing Show."
Surf Expo is held twice a year in September and January in Orlando, Fla. Going on 37 years, it is the longest-running trade show for the boardsports and beach industries. Attendance in September was over 26,000.
Surf Expo is certainly not alone in the Emerald/GLM deal. GLM’s portfolio includes over 20 leading names, four of which fall under TSNN’s 2012 top 100 in the US. Emerald Expositions produces more than 65 trade shows and conference events each year.
As David Loechner, chief executive officer at Emerald Expositions put it: “I am excited about the opportunities for customers and employees of both companies that will result from bringing these two high-quality portfolios together.”
