(Carbondale, Colo.) September 13, 2012—Ultralite Sports is pleased to introduce its clipless road cycling pedal system. With a unique, innovative design manufactured entirely in Colorado, the complete Ultralite pedal system—including pedals and cleats—weighs just 112 grams, over 100 grams lighter than any other pedal system on the market. Ultralite will introduce two pedal models at the Interbike tradeshow in Las Vegas: the Cirrus TI and the Nimbus STL. Ultralite pedals will be available to consumers in November 2012.

Former Garmin-Slipstream ProTour rider Will Frischkorn has been testing Ultralite pedals for the past several months. “You can't help but be impressed when you first see and hold the pedals,” he says. “However, it's the lower rotational weight, the ride quality and the increased power transfer the pedals deliver that really makes them special.”

Founded by Masters road racer Bill Emerson and product design engineer Neal Beidleman, Ultralite Sports seized an opportunity to rethink existing pedal designs. Rather than rely upon a bulky cleat and large, heavy pedal platform, Ultralite pedals feature a one-piece spindle with two independent barrels that secure the cleat. The aerodynamic cleat is made of lightweight, yet durable nylon.

“Clipless pedals have basically remained unchanged since Bernard Hinault popularized them during his 1985 Tour de France win,” says Ultralite president and founder Bill Emerson. “Today's rigid road shoes allowed us to develop a pedal system that is much more minimalist and lightweight while delivering maximum power and efficiency for everyone from the pros to recreational riders.”

Ultralite pedals allow for customization based upon a cyclist's weight, strength and preference. Two different cleat options offer four degrees of pedal float or a zero float/fixed position for competitive riders. Likewise, cyclists have the option to replace the pedal's standard spring with a low tension spring for easier engagement with the cleat, or a high tension spring for the most secure connection.

Ultralite Sports will be exhibiting at Interbike booth 37096. For dealer appointments please contact Bill Emerson at bill@ultralitesports.com. For a media appointment, contact Mike Shea, michael.shea@backbonemedia.net. For more information, visit www.ultralitesports.com.
