SCARPA North America offers Rottefella NTN telemark system rebate form

Program offers skiers $100 back on Rottefella NTN system after purchasing both boots and bindings through a retailer.

BOULDER, Colo. – In a move designed to encourage telemark skiers to visit retailers and step up to the performance of the NTN telemark boot/binding system, consumers who purchase both NTN-compatible boots and NTN bindings between Oct. 1, 2010, and Jan. 30, 2011 can get a $100 rebate.

Rottefella, which makes the NTN binding, is offering the rebate. It comes in the form of a Visa gift card once a skier submits receipts from a retailer for their purchase of NTN bindings and any NTN-compatible boot, along with a completed Rottefella rebate form.

SCARPA North America, which manufactures three NTN-compatible telemark boots – the Terminator X, the Terminator X Pro and the TX Comp – and also distributes the Rottefella NTN binding in North America, made the form for the rebate available this week via its web site. Visit to obtain the form, which will also be distributed via retailers of the NTN system.

Rottefella is also planning an NTN tour across the U.S. this winter season, which will offer skiers the chance to demo the system. SCARPA will post details on its blog as they become available.

Introduced in Fall 2007, NTN (New Telemark Norm) is a new binding and boot interface that radically improves the power transfer from boot to ski for telemark skiing. Instead of attaching the boot to the ski via a ‘duckbill’-style 75 mm toe, as do all other telemark bindings, the NTN binding clasps the boot underfoot with opposing force. The interface connects to the boot via two separate points, at the front of the boot (much like a traditional alpine skiing binding) as well as under the boot just beneath the arch. Because of this stronger connection between boot and binding, NTN delivers unparalleled performance and power transfer to the ski edges for telemark skiing. The binding and boots from SCARPA’s NTN collection have won Backcountry Magazine Editor’s Choice Awards each of the last two years.

The design also allows several other benefits for skiers, including side-to-side releaseability, a free-pivot touring mode, and springs of different tensions to accommodate skiers of differing sizes and ability levels, as well as boots of different stiffnesses.

In addition, two of SCARPA’s NTN compatible boots, the Terminator X and the Terminator X Pro, are compatible with both the NTN binding and tech-style alpine-touring bindings like Dynafit or the G3 Onyx, making them the first boots in the world that can be used for both telemarking and AT skiing.
