MICHELIN Technical Soles Partners with Magnum to Develop New Strike Force Tactical Boot

COMO, Italy (6 June 2016)

JV International (JVI), the global strategic partner chosen by MICHELIN® for the design, development and manufacture of high-performance MICHELIN-branded technical soles, today announced that it has partnered with Magnum, makers of high performance tactical and work footwear, to develop its new Magnum Strike Force boot. It will be available at retail in September 2016.

Additional Magnum styles are being developed for 2017 that are expected to also include MICHELIN outsoles, according to a joint announcement today by Filippo Sartor, JV International partnership development manager of MICHELIN-branded Technical Soles, and Luke Schnacke, Product, Marketing and eCommerce Director for Magnum Boots USA.

The Strike Force collection epitomizes Magnum's dedication to providing the end-user with innovation, comfort and protection.

The collection is the first in the world to incorporate Armourgel, a revolutionary material located in the ankle zone of the upper. The material moves naturally with the user but offers superior impact protection when struck.

The Recoil midsole, inspired by today's performance running shoes, provides a higher rebound than regular EVA's. This adds to the underfoot comfort and cushioning which is essential for long shifts and active work.

The Michelin outsole provides the highest level of adherence in Magnum duty boots, rain or shine, and on a multitude of surfaces. Magnum worked hand in hand with Michelin to deliver this new slip- and oil-resistant platform.

The black leather tactical boot will be available in 6-inch upper and 8-inch side zip models and will sell for a suggested retail price of $130 to $150.

"When presented with a list of requirements by first responders and other emergency personnel, we created an outsole specifically tailored for the Strike Force, one that would perform particularly well in indoor and outdoor environments," said Sartor.

The new Magnum Strike Force will be displayed within the Hi-Tec USA booth at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake, Aug. 3 to 6, 2016.

Adds Magnum's Luke Schnacke, "Michelin, one of the largest and most respected tire manufacturers in the world, was selected because of its strong brand recognition and 126-year experience in technology and materials related to rubber and textiles.

"How do you ensure that the grip on your footwear is the best it can be? When you're on your feet all day, there's no room for compromise - the right boot can mean the difference between a grueling day and a great day," says Schnacke.

"For the Strike Force we chose MICHELIN Technical Soles not only for its superior adherence and durability, but for the MICHELIN name, which we think will appeal to end-users familiar with the brand - one of the 15 most reputable brand names in the world, according to Reputation Institute in 2016," says Schnacke.

Sold in 80 countries around the world, today Magnum manufactures the number one selling uniform boot in the world, used primarily by law enforcement, ambulance, fire and security professionals.

JV International is based in Italy with partnership offices in Como and a design and product development center in Verona. MICHELIN tire-inspired footwear outsoles are targeted for the outdoors, work and safety, and extreme sports. In the U.S., this rugged footwear is also available at retail stores that carry shoes manufactured by Hi-Tec, Northwave, Ride, Salewa, TCX and Under Armour.

Tires and shoes share the same vocabulary: track, sole, tread, roll, stability, safety, performance, rubber and fabric. The added value that the team of designers at MICHELIN Technical Soles offers the market, along with its footwear partner designers, is the development of a sole inspired by MICHELIN tires. Unique aspects of these premium tires are integrated within the structure of the shoes providing them with MICHELIN's "ground contact" technology and the expertise of its brand partners.

Hi-Tec Magnum was founded in 1982 following a request by the FBI Training Academy at Quantico, Va., for lightweight, athletically-built black tactical boots. Until that point agents were wearing the Hi-Tec Sierra Lite Hiking boot but the request came for an all black, high top version with a shineable toe, giving birth to the original tactical boot constructed with sports shoe materials.
