Mammut, the Swiss quality providers of alpine gear and apparel, has just been honored with two of the six total SILVER OutDoor INDUSTRY awards announced at the recent OutDoor tradeshow, held July 17th-20th, 2008 in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Mammut received SILVER awards for its new flagship Mamook GTX Mountaineering Boot and the new Smart belay device, both lauded for unprecedented innovation and design in their respective product categories. Mammut's new Shield down sleeping bag also took honors from OutDoor, as the INDUSTRY awards recognized a total of just 27 products, and spotlighted the most innovative with two Gold and Six Silver awards.

The Mamook GTX mountaineering boot is just one example of technical performance in Mammut's new footwear line. Weighing just 860 grams, the Mamook's featherweight status deems it the lightest mountaineering boot on the market. Its hybrid shell strikes a balance between rigid structural support where needed, and flexible motion control and comfort throughout.

According to the INDUSTRY award jury, “The shoe stands out not only by virtue of its beautiful design, it is also very functional...the new type of material mix is convincing – especially its light weight. It adapts to the foot particularly well and guarantees pleasant wearing comfort. The asymmetrical 3-zone lacing provides for top-class support – for any type of foot.” Available in men's and women's specific fits, the Mamook will be available at specialty retailers in March of 2009.

In the mountain climbing equipment category, the jury called Mammut's new Smart belay device "…dynamic, quick and simple. A convincing design solution with perfect functionality." Designed by
Mammut to accommodate the brand's previous innovations in lightweight, skinny-yet-strong climbing ropes, the Smart is an assisted belay device with a non-mechanical automatic brake. The jury further described the Smart as “...ideal for partners with different body weights. In scary situations, the way it works reflects the reflex movements of the human body: even if the securing partner flinches or cramps, the functionality of the Smart is not affected.”

Mammut's new Shield down sleeping bag also received OutDoor INDUSTRY honors for the introduction of a lightweight, streamlined combination of sleeping bag and bivouac sac. The weather-tight Shield deflects rain, snow and moisture with seamless baffling to eliminate cold spots, and a convertible, complete coverage hood. Convenient design features include half-zips on each side for reading or cooking from the comfort and warmth of the bag.

“Mammut has a long history of innovations that take real technical performance to the next level, while taking real-life use into consideration,” said Mike Welch, national sales manager for Mammut USA. “It's truly an honor for Mammut to be rewarded in a global forum for forward-thinking innovations and design. On top of that, winning two of just six Silver awards really underscores our commitment and success as leading innovators in the market.”

Mammut's award-winning innovations and complete collections of apparel, footwear, climbing gear, and lighting can be seen at booth #3005 at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer trade show, being held August 8th-August 11th in Salt Lake City, Utah.
