Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian named ‘Top Lightweight Pack’ by Backpacker Magazine 2007 Gear Guide

“A super-sweet lightweight pack,” raved Backpacker Magazine’s map editor about Granite Gear’s Nimbus Meridian after repeat trips into Colorado’s Never Summer Wilderness. “The hipbelt and framesheet are a lot more supportive than most packs in this category, so don’t be afraid to carry 5 days worth of food and gear.”

TWO HARBORS, Minnesota –“A super-sweet lightweight pack,” raved Backpacker Magazine's map editor about Granite Gear's Nimbus Meridian after repeat trips into Colorado's Never Summer Wilderness. “The hipbelt and framesheet are a lot more supportive than most packs in this category, so don't be afraid to carry 5 days worth of food and gear.”

Backpacker Magazine's Gear Guide 2007 outlines and reviews editors' top choices for the year's finest outdoor equipment. The March issue is now available and features peak products chosen by Backpacker Magazine's experienced testers.

The Nimbus Meridian was developed with the aid of nearly continual feedback from Justin Lichter (trail name “Trauma”) during his 10,000 miles of through-hiking in 2005-2006. He completed all three of the major North American long-distance trails using just one pack, which was still in completely serviceable condition after his treks. “I have no doubt that any pack made by another manufacturer would not have made it even half of the 10,000 miles,” Trauma affirmed.

Granite Gear's Nimbus Meridian shares the same Topoflex framesheet and harness as the Nimbus Ozone, winner of the 2003 Backpacker Magazine's Editors Choice award. The unique 3 dimensionally molded composite framesheet is engineered to transfer weight and flex with the natural movements of the spine. The Pivot Point to framesheet attachment system “gives the Nimbus excellent stability and channels weight right to the hips, where you want it,” magazine testers say. The Nimbus Meridian also features a heavy-duty vertical zipper that accesses the main packbag, stretchy bottle pockets for trail necessities, and an internal hydration pocket perfect for “stashing water.”

In addition to the accolades of the Nimbus Meridian, Backpacker Magazine also awarded the “Top Tarp Value” to Granite Gear's Northern Light Tarp. This “superlight” and “floorless tarp” was also designed for Trauma's 10,000 mile trek. After multiple trips to the Rockies, one of Backpacker Magazine's editors added, “This tarp is light, sits tight to the ground, and the pitch is smart and easy.”
