Gore Donates $30,000 to Outdoor Charities, Result of National Campaign

Gore's "Give a Warm Fuzzy, Get a Warm Fuzzy" Campaign Benefits Big City Mountaineers, Continental Divide Trail Alliance and the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition through Consumer Support of Online Portal

Reinforcing its commitment to growing participation in the outdoors, W.L. Gore & Associates, respected worldwide for its GORE-TEX® fabric technologies, announced today it is donating $30,000 to three respected outdoor charities as a result of its “Give a Warm Fuzzy, Get a Warm Fuzzy” campaign. The campaign's giveawarmfuzzy.com online portal enabled consumers to raise awareness and support for Big City Mountaineers (www.bigcitymountaineers.org), Continental Divide Trail Alliance (www.cdtrail.org) and the Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition (www.oiwc.org), attracting more than 100,000 visits to its promotional sites between October 1, and December 15, 2008.

Gore is making its donation to each charity on behalf of the consumers who visited the “Give a Warm Fuzzy, Get a Warm Fuzzy” website and generated points for their favorite organization. As a result of this consumer support, Gore is donating $15,000 to Big City Mountaineers, $10,000 to the Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition, and $5,000 to the Continental Divide Trail Alliance. Gore also sent more than 5,000 free specialized WINDSTOPPER® warm and fuzzy products to participating consumers as an additional thank you.

"It was heartening to see the outpouring of interest and response to the “Give a Warm Fuzzy” Web portal from consumers who care about the outdoors,” said Diane Davidson, market development for Gore. "Especially in today's economy, we are so pleased to be able to support these organizations that do such great work to maintain and encourage participation in the outdoors."

The “Give a Warm Fuzzy, Get a Warm Fuzzy” website not only connected consumers to the three partner charities but also educated consumers about the benefits of the WINDSTOPPER brand for making appropriate choices when selecting garments for winter. The campaign influenced the sale of thousands of products with Gore retail partners.

The mission of Big City Mountaineers (BCM) is to provide urban teenage youth in need with positive adult mentoring in a challenging, yet safe wilderness experience. The Continental Divide Trail Alliance has 3,000 members working to increase public involvement, volunteer commitment and private support on the trail. The vision of Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition is to bring more women into the outdoor industry.

"Gore's Give a Warm Fuzzy campaign has been a fun project to be a part of, and its donation will go a long way in enhancing the lives of at-risk teens and introducing them to the outdoors," said Mark Godley, executive director of the Big City Mountaineers. "We were able to activate our existing community to participate in the website and attract new supporters, who we hope will be a part of the Big City Mountaineers family for years to come."
