GoLite is proud to announce that the GoLite Xirtam (pronounced {zeer-tam}) Jacket has received the prestigious 2006 Editor's Choice Award from Backpacker Magazine.

The Xirtam Jacket is an innovative hybrid storm/soft shell that is revolutionary in its technology and execution because it incorporates all the benefits of both storm and soft shell technologies into one jacket, including breathable waterproofness, windproofness, a soft feel, and stretch. With “all-in-one” versatility, the jacket can provide comfort to its wearer over a wide range of conditions while also saving him/her weight by eliminating superfluous outerwear. The Xirtam is constructed of Fusion™, a 3-layer fabric that combines a polyurethane membrane for water protection with a polyester tricot knit for warmth.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of this highly coveted award,” said GoLite co-founder and President Demetri Coupounas. “The Backpacker editors are rigorous testers with extremely discerning taste in outdoor products making this award especially meaningful to all of us at GoLite, especially our design team. We believe in the Fusion™ technology so much that we've expanded the line for Fall/Winter 2006.”

The Backpacker Editors' Choice Awards, bestowed annually since 1993, honor the products that Backpacker editors have chosen as the best of the year based on months of trail testing by teams of highly experienced hikers and climbers. With no set categories for the awards and no set number of recipients, the products and the testing process drive the award categories. GoLite's Xirtam Jacket was one of only 15 innovative products that have been honored with a 2006 Backpacker Editors' Choice Award.

“This year's Editors' Choice Award winners have emerged out of the most rigorous testing process in our space,” said Editor-In-Chief Jonathan Dorn. “Our test team looked at more than 50 new products this year, and spent hundreds of days evaluating the gear on trails from Alaska to the Alps. What sets the award winners apart are great innovation, value, and dependability.”

“We go to great lengths in testing for one simple reason: We want our readers to enjoy their time outdoors. When they pick up the magazine, they know they can count on our awards and product reviews—we're out there suffering so they don't have to.”

You can find the complete list of Backpacker 2006 Editors' Choice Award winners in the magazine's April issue, on newsstands March 14.

GoLite is also a past winner of the Backpacker Editor's Choice Award having been recognized for its Kinetic Jacket/Vest in 2004.
