Marmot Plasma 30 Receives Backpacker Magazine’s 2011 Editors’ Choice Award

Santa Rosa, CA – Marmot Mountain, LLC has been honored as a recipient of a 2011 Backpacker magazine Editors' Choice Award, the most prestigious award in the outdoor industry, given annually to products in recognition of their outstanding innovation in design, materials and/or performance. The 2011 award was given to Marmot for the new 900-fill goose-down Plasma 30 sleeping bag. Backpacker Editor-In-Chief Jonathan Dorn and his staff of editors and testers presented Marmot with the award at the annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah in January.

The new Plasma 30 sleeping bag ($419), one of only 13 innovative products that were honored with a 2011 Backpacker Editors' Choice Award, weighs only 1lb 6oz! The phantom weight bag, filled with luxurious 900-fill goose down, is constructed with vertical baffles and flow gate construction which contours to your body, maximizes thermal efficiency and helps to isolate the goose down, which helps to avoid cold spots.

“We also selected a durable 10 denier Pertex Quantum face fabric,” adds Wade Woodfill, Marmot's Category Merchandising Manager for equipment and the brainchild of the new ultra light series bags, which includes the Plasma 15 ($469). “Both bags have full length zippers—a breakthrough design value for sleeping systems in this weight range,” adds Woodfill. “We're honored to have won this award and hope to see outdoor enthusiasts using it in the field this year”.

Since their inception, the Backpacker Editors' Choice Awards have come to be regarded as the most sought-after award for outdoor equipment and apparel found in the industry. The impeccable outdoor credentials and rigorous field-testing standards of the Backpacker staff guarantee that these awards are an undisputed mark of quality for the companies and products selected.

The complete list of Backpacker 2011 Editors' Choice Award winners will be officially announced to the general public in the magazine's April Gear Guide issue, on newsstands March 9, 2011.
