GoLite athletes took home medals for adventure racing, trail running, and two of the highly coveted Everest Awards during the Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado, last weekend.

The GNC Adventure Sprint Championship was well attended, with some of the country's best adventure racers vying for first place. After a highly competitive race under grueling conditions, two Team GoLite/Timberland Expedition teams flanked the podium, taking second and third place overall.

During the USA 10KM Trail Running Championship, Team La Sportiva/GoLite athlete Laura Haefeli placed first in the women's division, surpassing a large number of elite runners along the way. Haefeli boasts an impressive running history, most recently having been named the 2005 USATF Mountain Runner of the Year.

The Everest Awards are the outdoor industry's most prestigious achievement awards, presented annually to the top male and female athletes in selected sports whose perseverance and skill bring their sports to a new level. There are six categories for the Everest Awards, including Trail Running, Mountain Biking, Whitewater Paddle Sports, Adventure Racing, Climbing, and Expedition of the Year. GoLite athlete Billy Mattison received the award for Adventure Racing, and GoLite athlete Andrew Skurka was the recipient for Expedition of the Year. Mattison is a world-class adventure racer and renowned whitewater paddler, legendary in paddling circles for his leadership and skills. Skurka was Backpacker Magazine's “Person of the Year” in 2005 for his successful completion of the 7,778-mile Sea-to-Sea Route, which took him from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. At the age of 24, Skurka was the first person to have made this transcontinental trek.

GoLite's award-winning athletes represent the collective activities that GoLite supports through its products, teams, and events: fast packing, adventure racing, and trail running. “We could not be happier for all of our athletes,” GoLite Co-Founder and CEO Kim Coupounas said. “They are among the best in the world at what they do, and it's great to see them recognized and honored for their incredible accomplishments.”

The Teva Mountain Games is a celebration of sports, soul and culture, and offers professional and amateur athletes the chance to compete in a variety of endeavors, including adventure racing, trail running, kayaking, climbing, and mountain biking.
