Los Angeles, CA (May 24, 2013) —8-time All American Katie Mackey clocked a 4:04:60 to take first place in the 1500 meters at the Oxy High Performance Meet on May 17th. In a dramatic sprint finish, Mackey was declared the winner with a new stadium record, a new meet record, an “A” standard qualifying time, and her personal best time by two seconds.
Mackey, who placed 9th in the 1500 meters at the 2012 US Olympic Trials last year, was thrilled with her performance: “After several 1500m races last year where I couldn't quite dip under 4:06, coming down the straightaway and seeing the clock hit 4 as we strained for the finish line was an amazing feeling! The PR’s and the wins don’t come often at this level which makes them so sweet when they do. Last year I was missing workouts because of my Achilles, but this year I feel good, thanks to the ElliptiGO which gives me a great cross-training alternative on those days when I would have been missing a workout. I feel better than I’ve ever felt and I’m so excited for the rest of the season.”
Mackey’s goal is to make the World Team in the 1500 meters this year. She began training on the ElliptiGO in the fall of 2012 and has joined the Project to better leverage the expertise of The ElliptiGO Project’s other members and advisors.
