NORTHFIELD, VT — Darn Tough Vermont, manufacturer of premium all-weather performance socks, has been named the official sock sponsor of the East Coast Adventure Racing Series (ECARS) and TeamSOG. Adventure racing is a team sport that includes disciplines such as trail running, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, orienteering and rappelling. TeamSOG is a group of top-ranked adventure athletes that participate in the greatest extreme races and challenges across the planet.

“The participants of extreme adventure races know good gear. They put their equipment through the most rigorous conditions,” said Mark Comcowich, Director of Sales and Marketing at Darn Tough Vermont. “For these tough men and women, it only seems fitting that they will be wearing Darn Tough Vermont socks.”

The sport of adventure racing has been steadily growing over recent years. Because it involves many disciplines, it appeals to a wide variety of outdoor athletes, including runners, cyclists, climbers, kayakers and backpackers. Races range in distance from 10-100 miles, or more, and can last for days. From dense forests to rocky singletrack, racers are faced with a variant of terrain and obstacles that require a well-rounded skill set to overcome. More information on adventure racing can be found at www.usara.com.

The ECARS comprises ten races in six states and is produced by the East Coast Coalition, a connection of adventure racing companies scattered throughout the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast. The races consist of teams (two to five participants) and can take several hours to a few days to complete. American Adventure Sports, the producer of the ECARS, expects the participants and spectators to reach into the thousands. The series kicks off on April 16 in Front Royal, Virginia.

In 2009, TeamSOG was ranked 2nd by the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) and 4th in the Checkpoint Tracker rankings. The members of the team came together because of similar outdoor interests and started competing in 2008 under the sponsor Nature Cure. In September of 2009, they switched sponsorships to SOG Specialty Knives and Tools.

Darn Tough Vermont socks are designed to allow athletes miles and miles of comfort and durability.
