Portland, OR (November 19, 2014) – Hi-Tec Sports sponsored travel writer and Global Walking Brand Ambassador, Alexandre Poussin, his wife Sonia and their two kids have begun their 16-month trek through Madagascar, covering 100km over ridges and steep slopes in the first week. With a goal of filming devoted social workers, volunteers, doctors and others working to help improve the economic situation in Madagascar, they plan to create a TV series to share these experiences.

Over the next 16 months, the Poussin family will visit multiple NGO’s and associations working for Madagascar’s reconstruction, restoration of the environment and the well-being of ignored populations. Trekking across the world’s fourth largest island, the Poussins will be immersed in the diversity of the people, landscapes, traditions and beliefs of this country.

In 2010, Alexandre and his wife, Sonia walked the length of Africa, starting from the Cape of Good Hope to the Sea of Galilee, outfitted in Hi-Tec footwear. They walked 14,000km and stayed with 1,200 local families. Along the way, these families helped give Alexandre and Sonia a more optimistic view of the continent and its inhabitants, and helped them create a documentary and multiple books about the locals and their lifestyles.

The Poussin family are wearing Hi-Tec’s latest lightweight hiking shoes, including the V-LITE SpHike Lo WP, V-LITE Trail Leather I WP, and the Tucano WP JR, as they trek alongside their cattle-pulled cart. You can follow the Poussins’ adventure on MadaTrek.com, which will be updated by the family as they experience the country.
