Winterstick Snowboards, founded in a Utah garage in 1972, will celebrate their 40th anniversary during the upcoming season. To celebrate, the brand will release updated versions of their Backcountry heritage flagship Swallowtail model.

40 Years Later, Winterstick Still King of the Backcountry

Telluride, CO (December 15th, 2011) – Winterstick Snowboards, founded in a Utah garage in 1972 by Dimitrije Milovich, will celebrate their 40th anniversary during the upcoming season. To celebrate, the brand will release updated versions of their Backcountry heritage flagship Swallowtail model that will be hand-made in Telluride, Colorado.

In 1971, Milovich desired to surf on the snow with a foam core fiberglass wrapped board, much like a surfboard. Through trial and error as well as an amazing engineering background, Milovich developed a board and a shape that was functional in the Wasatch powder. The flagship board of Winterstick is the Swallowtail. This classic shape has progressed through the years, starting with the foam core glass wrapped 160cm board with traction cones, to the 180 cm wood core board in the 90s, to a 172 cm board that has advanced side cut, and a more balanced shape. The 2011/12 Swallow is available in Ruby red to celebrate its Ruby anniversary. MSRP $650. Winterstick is also pleased to offer the Split Swallowtail, developed in 2008, as the premier backcountry powder board on the market. MSRP $800. Winterstick completes it backcountry and resort boards with the All Mountain and the All mountain ST (Severe Terrain) Models.

While celebrating, Winterstick would like to welcome back Mick Woodworth to the marketing team. Woodworth served as Marketing VP from 1994 to 1998 for Winterstick Snowboards in Salt Lake City. Woodworth will bring back some brand knowledge and a little bit of old school soul. “Winterstick has always been about getting away from the crowd, and with Tom Burt's knowledge and Wagner Custom's approach to construction, we have the finest boards we have ever built that are right in-line with our values as a brand,” Woodworth said from his new headquarters in Vail, Colorado.

With a new website launched this month and online ordering, Winterstick can deliver a handmade board in approximately 2-3 weeks. Get out there and ride one this season.
