How to Sell: Trail Running Shoes

Let's face it, gang – trail running isn't new. Folks have been running on dirt for eons, likely before shoes were even invented, and definitely before pavement and concrete covered perfectly good dirt. Nevertheless, given that most modern folks find running with shod feet is decidedly more enjoyable than barefoot, your job will be to make sure your customers' feet remain just as happy in the shoes on the dirt as they did on the carpet of your store.

If there’s one thing all trail runners need it’s the right pair of shoes to keep them comfortable and protected. That’s where this chapter of the SNEWS® Retail College comes in. Filled with all the basics about shoes and fit, it’ll make every salesperson feel more confident when he or she is standing in front of the shoe wall with customers.

The stats show more people are hitting the trails, plus they’re getting younger, and more first-timers are among them. Get them in the right pair of trail running shoes that will keep them comfortable and protected – and logging miles for many years to come – and you'll earn a customer for life. And that is a lot of shoe sales!

Although there are some trail curmudgeons who to this day grumble that nobody needs a special shoe for trail running, most anybody heading out for a run on a trail that is more than just a flat, urban, dirt path will quickly learn otherwise. Click on the image to the right or simply click here to access the easy-to-read digital flip training guide to selling Trail Running Footwear, written by SNEWS Editor-in-Chief Therese Iknoian.

A printed version of this digital flipbook was mailed to more than 1,000 specialty retail shops in late July 2011, and it is one in a series of special Retail College How To Sell chapters the SNEWS team will be producing through the rest of the year.

If you would like to have your store's name added to our mailing list to receive future training chapters, or if you are a manufacturer and would like to find out how you can work with SNEWS in producing a future "How To Sell" guide, contact our sales manager, Elizabeth Averbeck at eaverbeck@aimmedia.com.
