How to Sell: Packs

The right pack makes or breaks people’s experience in the outdoors. This SNEWS Retail College chapter breaks down the differences, features and fit on packs to help match the customer to the proper load carrier.

The right pack makes or breaks people’s experience in the outdoors. They can have all the perfect gear – sleeping bag, tent, stove, jacket and layers – but if the pack they use to carry the load is uncomfortable or unsuited for the adventure, they’re likely to be in for an unpleasant experience.

In the store, the choice can be a tough one – as packs evolve with better materials, suspension and versatility, their intended use starts to increasingly straddle the fence between outdoor day or multi-day adventures and urban travels or daily commutes. That’s where a knowledgeable salesperson comes in to help. And this SNEWS Retail College chapter provides the education – breaking down the differences, features and fit on packs to help match the customer to the proper load carrier.

The article covers pack types, outdoor versus travel, capacity and weight, comfort and fit, and a look at women- and sport-specific packs. A printed version of this digital flipbook was mailed to more than 1,000 specialty retail shops in late September 2011, and it is one in a series of special Retail College “How To Sell” chapters the SNEWS team will be producing through the rest of the year.

If you would like to have your store's name added to our mailing list to receive future training chapters, or if you are a manufacturer and would like to find out how you can work with SNEWS in producing a future "How To Sell" guide, contact our sales manager, Elizabeth Averbeck at eaverbeck@aimmedia.com.
