Whitewater Park Designer Recreation Engineering & Planning Taps b2,inc. for Media Relations

CARBONDALE, CO (June 30, 2010) – Boulder, Colo.-based Recreation Engineering and Planning (REP), the country's leader in whitewater park and riverside design, has retained b2,inc. of Carbondale, Colo., to handle its media relations efforts.

Since its founding in 1983, REP has created nearly 80 percent of all of in-stream whitewater parks in the United States with an aggregate value of more than $50 million, and has seen more than 30 projects through from inception to their floatable fruition. The parks vary in size from projects for communities like Steamboat Springs, Golden and Salida, Colo., to the $21 million National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, N.C. More recent projects include a $8 million whitewater park on the Bow River in Calgary, Alberta; a newly opened park on the Payette River in Cascade, Idaho; parks in Springfield and Dayton, Ohio; and a project in Flint, Mich., earmarked to help shift the city's reliance on the automobile industry to recreation.

“We're happy to partner with b2,inc. for our media efforts,” says company founder Gary Lacy, who shares duties with senior managing partners Mike Harvey and Shane Sigle. “Its principals have a long-standing history in the outdoor industry and can greatly enhance our recognition for the projects we're working on.”

With offices in Carbondale and Steamboat Springs, Colo., b2,inc. is spearheaded by founder Tim Braun., who brings more than 16 years of marketing, branding and public relation experience to the table; and Eugene Buchanan, a former media director in the ski industry and long-time publisher of Paddler magazine. “REP has a unique story to tell and is clearly the leaders in their field,” says Braun. “Plus, the trend is growing as more and more municipalities are recognizing the recreational and revenue potential of obsolete dams and rivers in their back yards.”

REP's recipe for success is simple. “It stems from our unique designs,” says Lacy, whose firm also works in collaboration with H20 Designs, owned by three-time World Cup Slalom Champion Scott Shipley. “We believe a river channel should integrate itself with the park around it and that these parks should be designed to meet the needs of a whole community.”
