LONDON, UK (April 26, 2019) - Tentsile, the award-winning brand known for its elevated and portable Tree Tents, launched the #BecomeOneOfTheMillion Campaign in 2017 with a dedicated mission to plant one million trees by 2021. On this Arbor Day 2019, Tentsile is excited to announce that it has reached the halfway point and to-date has planted 500,132 trees.

“At Tentsile, we love trees,” said CEO Alex Shirley-Smith. “Everything we do is about saving trees and inspiring others to love trees too. Our Tree Tents allow people to hang out in the forest in complete comfort; after all, if were all hanging out in trees, they can’t be chopped down.”

For every Tree Tent and hammock purchased, Tentsile makes a donation to plant 20 trees with its partners WeForest, The Eden Reforestation Project and The Arbor Day Foundation. Tentsile has now planted over half a million trees in projects located across Zambia, India, Madagascar and Oregon.

Tentsile’s tree planting partners all meet a number of strict criteria - from regular updates and tracking donations, to working with local communities, training residents, planting native species and protecting saplings to maturity.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture states that one acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people.

Additionally, National Geographic reported that researchers estimate roughly 15 billion trees in the world are cut down each year. The long-term effects of tree replanting goes far beyond the commonly known benefits and also impacts:

  • Watershed Protection
  • Air Quality
  • Wildlife Habitat
  • Soil Stabilization
  • Flood Control
  • Outdoor Recreation

“We appreciate that planting trees alone will not be enough to stem the tide of climate change,” continued Shirley-Smith. “As a global company in the outdoor industry, we have a responsibility to preserve the beautiful landscapes, precious water sources and wildlife that make up the diverse eco-systems all around us. To achieve this, we've joined a global network of businesses who're working together for a healthy planet.”

Tentsile also partners with Leave No Trace to help further protect the outdoors by teaching people to enjoy it responsibly. Tentsile actively encourages its followers to adopt Leave No Trace Principles and developed products such as Tree Protector Straps and the No Trace Kit (pictured below) to further minimize the environmental impact of Tentsile adventures.

Get Involved: Tentsile is challenging its customers and outdoor enthusiasts to offset their emissions through tree planting donations with Tentsile. For every tree-planting donation customers make, Tentsile matches it. Planting 25 trees with Tentsile can offset the carbon footprint of a 1865-mile car journey, approximately the distance from Colorado to New York.
