GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 14, 2014) – Team Wave Sport has added Jr. Men’s World Champion and kayaking phenom Hunter Katich to its roster for 2014, rounding out a roster of the top whitewater kayakers in the world. Committed to supporting and growing the sport of whitewater kayaking in all disciplines, Team Wave Sport provides an opportunity for Katich to continue to push the limits of freestyle, creek boating and river running through competitions and expeditions in the industry’s most innovative and intuitive kayaks.

“Hunter has not only proven that he is one of the best kayakers in the world, but that he is driven to continue challenging himself, strengthening his skills as a paddler, and growing the sport of kayaking,” said Bryan Kirk, Team Wave Sport manager. “His talent on the water and his dedication to training are raising the level of competition at the biggest paddling events in the world. But beyond his list of exceptional achievements, Hunter’s passion, focus, and infectious enthusiasm for kayaking make him a great addition to Team Wave Sport.”

“What I love most about kayaking is the freedom I feel every time I get in my boat. The water constantly changes, and the dynamic nature of rivers challenges me to stay focused, improve my technique, and ultimately be more competitive,” said Katich. “Joining Team Wave Sport will give me the opportunity to push my limits in all aspects of kayaking. I have big goals for 2014, including defending my 2012 ICF Jr. Men's World Cup Title in France and Spain. I’m excited for the opportunity to compete on the international circuit in Europe and to represent Team Wave Sport!”

Hailing from Auburn, Ala., Katich started kayaking recreationally at the young age of 11 with his father and quickly became one of the top contenders at all of the competitions he entered. In 2012, Katich placed first in the ICF Jr. Men’s World Cup, and in 2013, Katich won the gold medal in the Jr. Men’s Division at the ICF Freestyle Kayaking World Championships in North Carolina. Other career highlights include taking first in the Men’s Pro Division at the Chattahoochee River Games, making the finals in the Men’s Pro Event in Reno, Nev., and winning the 8-Ball Boater Cross race at the GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, Colo.

Katich will be paddling a Wave Sport Mobius at the Alabama Mountain Games this weekend (March 13-14) to kickoff the 2014 competition season.

About Wave Sport:

Wave Sport was founded in 1986 with a dedication to all things whitewater, and that philosophy holds true today. For Wave Sport, paddling is a journey whether over the course of a day or a lifetime. Some journeys are destined for a local, glassy surfing wave, while the journey for others may culminate in a first descent of some remote and enormous drop. For those who believe paddling is not just an activity, but a way of life, Wave Sport welcomes you to the ride. Join the Wave Sport Community and learn more at www.wavesport.com.
