W.L. Gore & Associates announces Team GORE-TEX® Adventure Racing Team's (www.gore-tex.com/teamgoretex) win in the 2010 GORE-TEX® TransRockies™ Run (www.transrockies.com) Mixed Masters Division. Team members Julie Leasure and Peter Courogen won the division with a total time of 19 hours, 31 minutes and 32 seconds.

The GORE-TEX® TransRockies™ Run leads racers through the state of Colorado for six days, following hiking routes up and down the Rocky Mountains with almost 25,000 feet of elevation gain. The track follows along crystal clear lakes and through forests, offering stunning scenery with varying weather conditions. Teams of two compete in categories including Open Men, Women and Mixed, and Men, Women and Mixed Masters. The Masters categories consist of team members whose ages combine to 80 years or more.

“We credit our success with our unwavering belief that we could win the division,” said Team GORE-TEX® captain Leasure. “We had a specific strategy for each stage, part of which was to look at each day as a race, not a run. In addition to pushing each other, we have to thank the other competitors. There was incredible support and friendly competition among the teams in our division, and that helped push me further than I thought possible.”

“After three consecutive years of being ‘bridesmaids,' placing second in the Open Mixed division, we are psyched to bring the GORE-TEX® brand a win in their own premier event,” Courogen added. “We came into this race fitter than ever before. In the weeks leading up to it, Julie and I raced a trail 50K, a trail half marathon and a trail marathon to be sure we were both in peak physical shape to claim the Mixed Masters division win.”

Along with Leasure and Courogen, Team GORE-TEX® includes Mike Dawson and Brad McLean. In addition to sharing a passion for competitive adventure racing, all four team members are full-time product development/marketing specialists and engineers. Wearing the latest products with GORE-TEX® and WINDSTOPPER® fabric, the team of uniquely qualified endurance athletes evaluate performance benefits and areas for improvement and offer specific recommendations for finished product enhancement.

“We could not be happier for our Team GORE-TEX® members taking the win this year,” said Brian Gallagher, Gore global footwear strategist. “They've given their best effort for four straight years at the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run, and no team is more deserving of a win. We look forward to continuing our relationship with these elite athletes as they take on new challenges and continue to help us perfect our adventure racing products.”
Team GORE-TEX® hopes to continue the winning momentum in the XTerra Trail Running Championships in Bend, Oregon, on September 18, and the Checkpoint Tracker National Adventure Racing Championships in Moab, Utah, October 29-30th.
