Elkton, Md. –– January 31, 2007 – W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. -- Inspired by the enthusiasm generated by the GORE-TEX™ Transalpine Run in Europe, this year is to see the start of an American version taking its participants through the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world. The GORE-TEX™ Transrockies Run is scheduled to take place from 16 - 21 September 2007.
The route will lead the participants through the state of Colorado and the most stunning parts of America's Rocky Mountains. Following hiking routes along crystal clear mountain lakes, runners will experience a unique world of flora and fauna. Spectacular views offering a breathtaking panorama of the mountains will ensure that the GORE-TEX® Transrockies Run will not only be one of the most beautiful but also one of the most challenging multi-leg runs in the world.
Over a period of only six days runners will have to cover a distance of approximately 200 kilometres (125 miles) and ascents totalling 7500 metres (25 000 feet). The start is in Beaver Creek Resort from where the route passes through the White River and San Isabel National Forests, via the town of Leadville. The final leg is in the town of Aspen. The runners will spend the night in special purpose-built wilderness camps.
The GORE-TEXâ„¢ Transalpine Run scheduled to take place for the third time
Meanwhile preparations are underway in Europe for the third GORE-TEXâ„¢ Transalpine Run which is set to take place this year from 1 - 8 September 2007. By the beginning of January 30 teams from 10 countries had already confirmed their participation in this quite unique event.
Between the start in Oberstdorf in Germany and the finish in Latsch in South Tyrol the runners spend 8 days covering a distance of 240 kilometres and ascents totalling 14,000 metres in the midst of spectacular mountain scenery. The highlights of the event include a short mountain sprint, a full-length marathon and the ascent to the top of Mount Rappenscharte in Austria which rises to a height of over 3,000 metres.
Both races target joggers and mountain runners, but are equally suitable for ambitious Nordic walkers. Participants start in twos and the competition is divided into 4 different divisions: men's, women's, masters' and mixed.
Both events are organised by the agency ‘Plan B' which also stages “BIKE Transalp“ and the “Transrockies Bike Challenge“.
