Salomon to Sponsor GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run again in 2009

In its first two years, the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run has firmly established itself as one of the must-do endurance events in North America. The challenge of six days and 113 miles of epic trail running across the top of North America is combined with the unique rewards of team competition and the camaraderie of spending the week with hundreds of other runners in a travelling village which provides complete support to competitors and crew.

Runners cover 113 miles of trail during the six days including everything from rock-strewn mountaintop trails to cold creek crossings and undulating traverses of alpine meadows. They must also cope with the high altitude challenges like thin air, weather extremes and dehydration as they spend nearly 40 percent of the run at over 10,000 feet of elevation and never drop below 7,000 feet elevation during the week.

Through it all, though, their single most important piece of running equipment will be their shoes, and once again, Salomon will once again be the Official Footwear Partner of the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run. “Salomon is excited to be partnering with Gore to sponsor the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run. , said Salomon Sports Marketing Manager Paul Guimond “We have always supported the sport, its iconic events and its most charismatic athletes. This partnership is a step forward to express our strong commitment to help the trail running community in North America”.

With over 60 years of authentic mountain sports heritage, Salomon creates and develops performance equipment for true adventures. Designed and tested by Salomon's staff of mountain sports junkies, Salomon trail shoes have been proven by an elite group of trail runners in winning races all over the World. Just as importantly, they have been worn and loved by enthusiasts and weekend warriors everywhere. “We're really excited that Salomon is going to be part of the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run again this year,” said Event Director Aaron McConnell. “They're an iconic trail running brand and an ideal partner for the TransRockies Run.”

The TransRockies Run provides the ultimate testing and proving ground for Salomon's mountain running equipment. Each day, runners will take tens of thousands of strides on a wide variety of surfaces, and their shoes will have to deliver the best in responsiveness, speed, protection, stability, cushioning and grip throughout. Salomon's trail shoes combine fanatically-developed grip and cushioning platforms with proprietary fit technologies like Advanced Chassis, Sensifitâ„¢, Quicklaceâ„¢ and Asymmetrical Lacing to provide the greatest comfort no matter how long the run.

Runners will face a huge potential variety of Rocky Mountain weather: heat at lower elevations, cold on the peaks, bone-dry jeep tracks, wet mountain creeks, and even the potential for snow. Thermal and moisture regulation will be paramount in maintaining comfortable, healthy feet and Salomon's trail running range includes three different shoes made with GORE-TEX® XCR for light, mobile and breathable waterproof barrier protection.

“The GORE-TEX® brand provides a technology platform which runners need to achieve a strong performance on the course”, said Matt Schreiner, Gore Global Footwear Product Specialist. “It helps the runner maintain an optimal microclimate in the shoe for as long as possible in the widest range of conditions. Our strong global partnership with Salomon has really advanced product development and innovation in the world of outdoor footwear with their specific focus on trail running.”

Starting in Buena Vista on August 23rd and finishing at Beaver Creek Mountain resort six days later, this third edition of the TransRockies Run will again challenge runners to overcome distance, altitude and a wide variety of trail obstacles as they move toward the finish line in Beaver Creek. The rewards of the TransRockies Run are just as exceptional: spectacular mountain scenery along the Continental Divide to Aspen forests and high alpine meadows; camaraderie created by the unique team multi-day format; and fantastic full-spectrum race support from one of the foremost event organizations in the World.
