The Norwegian-based Sweet Protection, designers of cutting edge whitewater, snowsports, and bike helmets, is set to introduce two new snowsport helmets during this year’s Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show in Denver, Colo. The new, lightweight helmets are packed with safety features to keep skiers and riders safe at the resort, in the backcountry, and on the racecourse.

Sweet’s design philosophy is simple: make the best and safest high-performance helmets by finding the sweet spot between world class impact protection, low volume and light weight. These two helmets are simply the latest examples of this philosophy in practice.

“With best-in-class design and construction, Sweet Protection strives to make helmets with the safety features, fit and performance to accommodate the widest range of skiers and riders possible,” says Christian Erga, Head of Marketing with Sweet Protection. “From World Cup racers to weekend warriors, the new line of Sweet Protection helmets and safety equipment can bring peace of mind to those trying to tackle any terrain, in any conditions. We are proud to build some of the safest, most fully-featured helmets on the market and know our newest offering will inspire anyone to push their boundaries with confidence.”

The new feature-rich Switcher helmet will help to keep you cool with a unique ventilation system that can be adjusted with the turn of a single knob. As conditions change on the mountain, the one-turn ventilation system allows skiers and riders to open and close all 22 of the helmet’s vents simultaneously. The unique design of the ventilation system brings in cool air through six forward facing vents and channels it through the areas of the helmet closest to the superficial temporal arteries; the spots on the head that offer the most effective cooling. The knob is located on the back of the helmet where it cannot ‘catch’ on snow during a crash, helping to reduce concussion-causing rotational forces.

In addition to the unique cooling system, the Switcher Helmet will come with the superior safety features that Sweet Protection users have become accustomed to. Using an advanced combination of in-mold and hardshell construction, the Switcher blends technologies like a Variable Elasticity Hybrid Shell and Impact Shields to protect the most vulnerable parts of the head and disperse the force of impact around the helmet. With the Switcher helmet, skiers and riders can feel safe, comfortable and protected in any conditions. Available in men’s and women’s models, with MIPS ($249) or without ($219).

Ski racers are accustomed to icy conditions and fast speeds, and the Volata race helmet utilizes all of the latest safety technologies to create a helmet that even the most aggressive racers will wear with confidence. This premium, World Cup-ready helmet will be offered in several different models and all will feature a shock absorbing EPS liner that includes Sweet’s proprietary Impact Shields to help better distribute impact forces around the more angular front and back of the skull. All Volata helmets will also include Sweet’s new for winter 2018/19 Gate Shields. Made from Expanded Polypropylene and Polycarbonate shells, the Gate Shields will protect the shock absorbing structure of the helmet from gate impacts, increasing the durability of the helmet. One-of-a-kind emergency removal ear pads help to keep the neck stable after a crash. All Volata MIPS helmets will feature the brand news 3-L Mips, a unique, three layer MIPS system developed in unison with Sweet specifically for Sweet Protection race helmets.

The Volata WC Carbon MIPS LT ($999) helmet is Sweet’s top of the line race helmet. This unique, limited edition model is co-developed with two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Aksel Lund Svindal. It features a hand finished carbon fiber/polyamide shell for the best blend of elasticity and rigidity. This helmet will be shipped in a rigid box with a signed certificate. Only 200 will be made.

Designed specifically for speed events, the Volata WC Carbon MIPS ($599) offers many of the same features as the limited edition version with recessed binding and rivets to create a slick surface to reduce concussion-causing rotational forces during impact.

Next in line is the Volata MIPS ($259) and the Volata MIPS Team Edition (TE) ($269). Thanks to the injection molded ABS Race Thermoplastic Shell, all Volata MIPS helmets offer variable elasticity, making it more elastic or rigid on different parts of the head to maximize crash protection. Suitable for all disciplines, this helmet can be fitted with a removable chin guard for slalom events. Bright, bold colors set the Volata MIPS TE apart from the Volata MIPS. Available in men’s and women’s versions.

The Volata men’s and women’s helmets offer the same ABS Race Thermoplastic Shell and impact absorption technology as the Volata MIPS in a non-MIPS version. MSRP: $229

Whether you are preparing for Olympic-level Super G or your kids are racing on their local hill, the Volata helmet line has the model to give you peace of mind on the course.

These new helmets will be introduced to the industry during the Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show, January 25-28 in Denver, Colo. in booth #42123-UL. For more information on Sweet Protection, visit www.sweetprotection.com.
