Boulder, CO — Spyder Active Sports signed ski mountaineer and big-mountain specialist Stian Hagen to their athlete roster. Hagen will join athlete Chris Davenport in developing a backcountry and big-mountain apparel collection and draw on his years of experience climbing and skiing the most technical peaks in the harshest of mountain conditions.
“Spyder has given me a great opportunity to be heavily involved in product development, provide a vehicle for my ideas about building the perfect apparel pieces for the backcountry, and support my career as an athlete,” Hagen said of the partnership.
Russ Rowan, Spyder’s VP sales and marketing, brought Hagen to the brand. “We’re stoked to have Stian join our team of talented athletes. Our intention is placing our team in the forefront of the brand and making them all an integral part of our product development. If the product we develop is tested and approved by the athletes, then we know it will surpass the expectations of our consumers. In short, team and product go hand in hand together as one. Our athletes demand and deserve the best and this is what we intend on delivering on the floor.”
Norwegian by birth, Hagen’s career began when he moved to Chamonix and skied the legendary north face of the Aguille du Midi when he was only twenty years old. In subsequent years he skied just about every legendary proving ground in the area including the east face of the Matterhorn, chronicled in Matchstick Production’s 2008 ski flick Claim. “Logging around 200 days in the mountains each year, I will provide important testing and input into every little detail of the product,” said Hagen.
Hagen embodies the spirit of Chamonix, where he has lived for the past ten years, and will provide an important European perspective to the team. Hagen’s sponsorship begins an effort in building a European athlete roster for the brand. “We plan on making our pool of European athletes the best of the best in all disciplines on the mountain,” Rowan added.
