Sherpa Adventure Gear Teams Up with Bradshaw Taylor for Distribution

Sherpa Adventure Gear has teamed up with Bradshaw Taylor to launch the outdoor apparel brand into untapped markets in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Europe.

(Kathmandu, Nepal and Renton, Washington—November 29, 2011)—Sherpa Adventure Gear—the outdoor apparel manufacturer honouring the heritage and high altitude prowess of the Sherpa people—is pleased to announce that it has selected Bradshaw Taylor Ltd as its new distributor for the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Europe. Under the recently finalised agreement Bradshaw Taylor will manage sales, marketing, distribution and logistics for the U.K., Scandinavia and all of Europe with the exception of Italy and Austria. The new distribution agreement will see Sherpa Adventure Gear products arriving at stores in Fall 2012.

“This is a very exciting step for us” said Tashi Sherpa, President of Sherpa Adventure Gear. “Our conversations with Bradshaw Taylor convinced us they would be the best and most experienced partner to forge a strong presence for our company in these new international markets.”

The partnership with Bradshaw Taylor expands the distribution of Sherpa Adventure Gear into untapped markets beyond its current sales network in the U.S., Canada, Italy, Austria, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, Dubai, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela. The company also sells through three Sherpa Adventure Gear stores located in Nepal.

Bradshaw Taylor—based in Rutland, England—adds Sherpa Adventure Gear to their portfolio of brands including Icebreaker, Keen, Royal Robbins, Schoffel and Timbuk2.

Corry Taylor, Managing Director of Bradshaw Taylor Ltd, said “Tashi Sherpa, who owns and founded this inspirational brand, received a standing ovation from our whole company after presenting the brand and its remarkable ethos to us. This is one of the most interesting, authentic, compelling and emotive brands I’ve ever seen. It’s steeped in the heritage of the Khumbu and Everest with vibrant colours. Working Sherpas test all the products on the mountain for a minimum of six months. Retailers and end consumers alike once touched by the brand will feel compelled to get involved - as we have.”

Bradshaw Taylor has already signed two well-known climbers as part of its effort to launch Sherpa Adventure Gear—Kenton Cool and Neil Gresham. Cool is a highly accomplished IFMGA guide with a record of success on Everest, where he has reached the summit nine times, twice within the same week, which was a global first.

“Since 1995 the Himalayas have defined my life,” said Cool. “There is no doubt that my successes on Everest would never have happened without the Sherpa people, who I’ve shared everything with. They are some of my most cherished friends, people who I would risk everything for in the knowledge they would risk everything back. Out of these people and landscape has sprung a brand that has its roots deep in the hearts and minds of these amazing people. For that reason alone I’m proud to align myself with the one brand that takes its name from the very people that inspired it.”

Gresham is one of Britain’s most well known all-round climbers, equally at home on rock or ice. He coaches regularly and is a columnist for Climber and Rock & Ice magazines.

Gresham said “Having worked as a tech-rep and professional athlete for Bradshaw Taylor since 2000, I was delighted to hear the news that they have formed a distribution partnership with Sherpa Adventure Gear, one of the world’s most exciting new outdoor brands. The Sherpa brand is bursting with youth and vitality, yet at the same time it is underpinned by centuries of wisdom. The journey ahead will be exciting for Sherpa Adventure Gear, and I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to join their wonderful team.”

About Sherpa Adventure Gear

Sherpa Adventure Gear was founded in 2003 by Tashi Sherpa, who was inspired to start the company when he discovered that his uncle was one of the Sherpa on Sir Edmund Hilary’s celebrated, first-ever expedition to the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Sherpa Adventure Gear—which manufacturers apparel for mountain and outdoor adventures—honours the unsung Sherpa heroes who make high altitude Himalayan climbs possible by carrying the loads, laying the ropes, and guiding the way. Sherpa athlete-ambassadors test and help design Sherpa Adventure Gear products, most of which are manufactured in Nepal. The company employs over 150 people in Nepal, and in 2009, furthered its local commitment when it opened its downtown Kathmandu headquarters, which houses its offices, a flagship store and The Terrace bed and breakfast. Two more stores opened in 2010, in Namche and Pokhara, Nepal. The company’s marketing and sales office is in Renton, Washington. Sherpa Adventure Gear gives back to the Sherpa community through its Paldorje Education Foundation. A portion of every sale funds educational and social initiatives, such as providing scholarships to deserving Sherpa children.
