Boulder, Colo., and Salt Lake City, Utah, Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Booth 3043 – Sea to Summit Inc. has announced their exclusive distribution agreement of Traction Gear to paddlesport, surf, snowsport and outdoor retailers in North America. Traction Gear is the creator of AquaRacks and AquaSlings–two rack systems which display or store paddle gear while protecting its structure and finish.

AquaRacks ($99.95MSRP) were launched several years ago in Australia. They have been distributed to 150 retailers throughout the country and region by Sea to Summit Australia. AquaSlings ($59.95 MSRP) were introduced in November 2007 and are a lighter, low-profile storage system primarily designed for home use of paddle/surf sport gear.

“Traction offered us two concurrent real-world product and test marketing scenarios: a paddle shop owner who developed and used the gear as a retailer and consumer. He was not only successful in his own retail applications of AquaRacks but manufactured them after other retailers and his customers requested them,” said Andrew Dunbar, co-owner of Sea to Summit Inc., based in Boulder. “Josh Simpson and Simon Ilsley (Traction's co-owners) have a proven track record of quality as well as product demand throughout several countries. North American retailers and paddlers have been waiting for a system like this for years to avoid the scratching and other damage that comes from simply doing business, moving product around, and storing paddle gear,” he said.

“Traction is a natural fit for Sea to Summit. It not only fits with the other accessories we offer, but it also expands our line of innovative merchandising solutions, which is what we're known for among retailers.” added Shelley Dunbar, co-owner of Sea to Summit Inc.

“We first became aware of AquaRacks when it came time to make room for more kayaks in our showroom. This is the best storage solution we could find. They perform flawlessly and are very easy to install and use. Now that we're displaying the AquaRacks as well as the boats, we are selling almost as many AquaRacks as boats,” said Joe Butler, president of Black Creek Outfitters in Jacksonville, Fla.

Traction Gear of Australia now distributed in the U.S. by Sea to Summit Inc.
AquaRacks were developed by Josh Simpson in 2003 to protect his paddlesport inventory from damage and scratching from traditional wooden racks used for retail display and storage. In the back of his store, Simpson created a simple and versatile solution that not only worked in his own retail environment but as a storage system for the customers who bought paddlesport gear from him and wanted to protect their investment. Soon other retailers requested the same fixtures which became AquaRacks and the new AquaSlings launched in November 2007. Simpson partnered with Simon Ilsley in 2006 to expand their business into what is now theTraction brand. Later in 2006, Sea to Summit became their exclusive Australian distributor. Headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, Traction products are now in 150 gear shops throughout Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific and North America with new products ready to launch in 2008 and 2009. A list of Traction Gear retailers in the U.S. will be announced in the summer of 2008. Contact Sea to Summit Inc., at (303) 440-8977 or email us at info@seatosummit.com for more information.
