Seattle, WA – April 8, 2010 – Outdoor Research, manufacturer of functional solutions for human powered adventure, raised more than $6800 for Friends of the Avalanche Center at its fourth annual VertFest. The uphill/downhill race took place at Alpental Ski Area on March 6, 2010, under picture-perfect spring sunshine.

Organized by Outdoor Research and sponsored by Alpental Ski Area, Pro Guiding Service and Osprey Packs, VertFest provides the community of like-minded outdoor enthusiasts who love a challenge the opportunity to celebrate the culture of backcountry adventure. The challenging, exciting course set by Martin Volken attracted a record-breaking 104 competitors.

“Since the first VertFest, our goal has been to support the Friends of the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center and to provide a fun event for our community of fun-loving, adventurous, and energetic outdoor adventurers,” said Christian Folk, spokesperson for Outdoor Research. “The sunshine, the snow, and the racers made this event one of the most memorable and successful ever. With our record-breaking crowd, we were able to raise the most money to date with this event! Also, with the 100 plus competitors this is now the largest Randonee rally in the Northwest!”

VertFest veteran Andy Traslin won the Men's Race Division skinning up and skiing down the 4,100 feet of elevation faster than his 26 competitors. Monika Johnson, another longtime VertFest participant won the women's race division beating out two competitors.

In the open/recreational division, which attracted 53 participants, Andy Brown and Susan Ashlock finished first in the men's and women's categories after racing up and down the course with a 2,280-foot elevation gain. Full results from all of the races can be found on the Outdoor Research website.
