Ocean Minded Brand Ambassador, Candice Appleby Wins Battle for the Pad

Ocean Minded is pleased to announce Brand Ambassador, Candice Appleby, 24, took first place in the Elite women’s division of the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle in Waikiki, Hawaii on June 12-13, 2010.

San Clemente, CA – June 15, 2010— Ocean Minded is pleased to announce Brand Ambassador, Candice Appleby, 24, took first place in the Elite women's division of the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle in Waikiki, Hawaii on June 12-13, 2010.
 


During the weekend-long stand-up paddle (SUP) exposition, Appleby joined more than 600 of the world's best stand-up paddlers to compete for the $25,000 prize purse. Appleby took home $2,500 for her first place win in the 5-mile Elite Battle. She finished the race in 1 hour, thirty five minutes and twenty five seconds, beating out second place finisher, Australian Shakira Westdrop, by more than one minute and ten seconds.
 


"I'm thrilled to have competed and won in my own backyard of Hawaii. All of the athletes did an amazing job in the competition and it's wonderful to see the sport of SUP growing,” Appleby said “I can't wait for the next Battle of the Paddle in October”.
 


Continuing with her excellent performance, Appleby also placed second overall in the women's distance, first in 14ft board class, second in the relay, and received the Most Combative award which is given to the best overall female performance.
