Seattle, U.S.A. – MSR (Mountain Safety Research), the Seattle-based manufacturer of high-performance outdoor equipment, has been synonymous with mountain expeditions since 1969. In 2012, MSR celebrates nearly a decade of supporting the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and North American Film Tour.

The 2012-13 Festival kicked off October 27 at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. The ensuing tour will reach more than 50 North American states, provinces and territories starting in November. The 300-plus films curated by the jury of the Banff Mountain Film Festival take viewers to far-flung corners of the globe and to the limits of human endurance. Canadian conservationist, writer, and broadcaster David Suzuki and Dasho Kinley Dorji, a journalist and Secretary of Information and Communications for the Himalayan nation of Bhutan, will headline this year’s festival. The proceeds from several tour screenings benefit local outdoor programs, community causes, or non-profits, such as youth adventure and outdoor pursuit programs, search and rescue operations, climbing clubs, adaptive sport programs, conservation groups, and trail maintenance organizations.

“The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival brings the best of adventure and outdoor aspirations to the rest of us who may find our biggest adventures a few miles from home,” said Jane Mauser, marketing director for Alpine & Snow Tools at MSR. “The films and books connect fans with their heroes, as well as new outdoor producers and writers who consistently deliver entertaining, humorous and emotional content. MSR is privileged to be a part of this lifestyle and we’re honored that our products help make these adventures possible.”

MSR will be giving away to a few lucky winners at each screening new MSR® Alpine Bottles as well as all-season SureLock™ TR-3 trekking poles and Lightning Ascent snowshoes. The products are currently available at leading outdoor specialty retailers for fall and winter excursions.

MSR will also host a product display table at several screenings throughout the U.S. and Canada, including the always-sold-out three-night screening in its hometown of Seattle, Washington, Nov. 28-30 at The Mountaineers Program Center. Tour updates and additional contests will be available at www.facebook.com/msrgear and on Twitter @MSRGear.
