Arcata, CA, February 26, 2016 - In late March explorers Chris Christie, Jon Burak, and Kokatat ambassador Jimmy Martinello plan to depart on a 12 to 14-day journey to surf, ski and paddle through the Bella Coola of British Columbia, Canada.

“The late winter early spring will hopefully provide us with best chance for deep powder turns in the mountains and flowing snowmelt in the rivers,” said Martinello. “And with that snowmelt comes cold waters, and we’ll be glad to have Kokatat dry suits.”

The 200km expedition begins with a 50km paddle by stand-up paddleboard (SUP) down the Bella Coola River, followed by a 5-day out and back ski mountaineering trip in to the large bowls and couloirs of the Bella Coola high mountains.

After descending back to their paddleboards the team will continue down the Bella Coola and the North Bentinck Arm, through the Burke Channel, on to the Fitz Hough Sound where they will stage at Namu. There they will wait for optimal weather to cross the straight to Calvert Island. Once at Calvert Island they will spend 5 days exploring and surfing the island’s many surf breaks.

Each team member will be outfitted with a Kokatat Gore-Tex Front Entry dry suit, Maximus Centurion PFD, and Nomad boots to keep them safe and dry throughout their journey.

The three adventures share a deep passion for the outdoors and adventure with over 75 years of combined mountain and water adventure experience. Martinello and Christie are acclaimed photographers having produced images and video for commercial and editorial clients including Red Bull, National Geographic, and Mountain Life Magazine. Burak is the publisher and co-founder of Mountain Life Magazine.

About Kokatat Inc.
Kokatat has been manufacturing paddling gear in Arcata, California for more than 40 years. At a time when many technical apparel brands were moving manufacturing offshore, Kokatat continued to invest in infrastructure in the United States. Kokatat founder Steve O’Meara was committed to the development of the finest and driest paddling apparel in the world and recognized the need to control and continually evolve the development of our dry wear. In the early days, Kokatat worked closely with W.L. Gore & Associates, makers of GORE-TEX®, to refine the sewing and sealing techniques required for full immersion suits and tops. Today, our hands-on approach to manufacturing continues to set the standard in paddling apparel. Into the water with Kokatat!
